The match of the day - and perhaps the match of the season so far - saw top placed Yeovil Town against third placed Rovers at Huish Park in what turned out to be the highest attendance of the season so far by a considerable margin, with over 6,600 fans packing into the ground. Yeovil were in impressive form in previous games, with significant victories over Southport and Telford in their last two games seeing eleven goals scored with none in reply. After a good start to the season, Rovers had faltered, although they had improved to start the match unbeaten in the last four games, and without a goal conceded.

Yeovil had no injury worries, having a full squad to select from. Rovers had Danny Hudson, on loan from Rotherham United, making his debut, and was alongside Ben Muirhead, who made a 'man of the match' debut in the previous game against Forest Green. Jamie Price dropped to the bench to accommodate Hudson, and Jamie Paterson had to settle for a place on the bench after completing a three match suspension.

The match started fifteen minutes late after many coaches transporting the Rovers supporters were delayed on their way to the ground, but it was worth the wait. With just seventy seconds on the clock, Rovers incredibly found themselves ahead. Debutant Danny Hudson found himself twenty yards from goal, and struck his shot into the bottom left corner of the goal out of the reach of Yeovil's keeper Jonathan Sheffield to put his new side ahead. The game then settled down for a few minutes, although Rovers won the first corner of the match in the fifth minute, which was taken by Muirhead. From the resulting play, the ball again fell to Hudson 20 yards out, but this time his attempt went wide of the left post. Yeovil were starting to press forwards, and after seven minutes went close to equalising. Andy Watson conceded a free kick after Crittenden had been fouled, with Adam Lockwood heading McIndoe's free kick over the bar from six yards. Yeovil had the next chance in the 14th minute, as McIndoe's cross was met by Andy Lindegaard, whose volley from a central position lacked sufficient power and was caught by Warrington. The pressure of the home side eventually paid dividends in the 15th minute after Johnson passed the ball to Gavin Williams 25 yards from goal. His sweetly struck shot rose all the way towards goal, clipping into the net off the post, giving Andy Warrington no chance of stopping it. Play after the goal got a little scrappy, with several fouls and off-side decisions breaking play up, with neither side producing the flowing football they are capable of. Rovers were continually being forced back, although despite the possession, it took Yeovil until the 28th minute for their next shot, with Darren Way having a 30-yard shot going wide of the left post. Rovers did manage to relieve the pressure in the 31st minute when they won a corner, but Morley's foul on the keeper gave the possession back to Town. Yeovil had a shot by Lindegaard blocked by a Rovers player in the 34th minute, and a free kick moments later just outside the Rovers area struck the Rovers wall before being cleared. A good opportunity then followed when Jackson did well to slip past his marker, went to the left bye-line to send a low cross into the centre. The ball evaded the keeper, but unfortunately neither Hudson or Barnes could make contact with the goal at their mercy. Rovers could have regained the lead three minutes before the break after they won a free-kick following a foul on Andy Watson. Muirhead's floated free-kick was punched clear by Sheffield in the home goal, the ball coming to Dave Morley, whose left-footed shot on the volley beat the goalkeeper, but was blocked by Pluck. On the stroke of half time, Lindegaard, who was proving to be a trouble all afternoon to the Rovers defence, struck a shot from 18 yards over Warrington's crossbar.

Yeovil were on the attack from the beginning of the second half, and won the first corner of the half after three minutes of play. Skiverton met Johnson's far-post corner six yards out, with Warrington doing well to palm away his shot. The bal lfell to Lindegaard, whose shot was cleared off the Rovers goal line. Yeovil's next assault on the Rovers goal came within a minute, with Lockwood's header six yards from goal going wide of the post. It took Rovers until the 57th minute to land their next shot on target, with Barnes' shot from the edge of the area being blocked by Skiverton. Rovers were very lucky not to go behind in the 64th minute as Williams had a 25-yard shot blocked, with the ball falling to Lindegaard with only Warrington to beat. Somehow Paul Barnes gained enough ground to make an all-important challenge before Lindegaard could get his shot in. The Rovers attacks were somewhat thin on the ground, with just the occasional foray into enemy territory to relieve the pressure on the Rovers defence. However, Hudson did manage to get a shot from the edge of the penalty area on target in the 68th minute, although his attempt was blocked by Lockwood. Again, Rovers could not be written off, with Paterson, who had replaced Muirhead in the 62nd minute, taking an outswinging corner in the 77th minute. Albrighton met the ball to have his header blocked and cleared by McIndoe. Rovers came back again, with Paterson getting a shot from just inside the area go just past the left post within seconds of the corner. The home side still forged forwards, with Crittenden's cross being headed over the bar by Lindegaard. Two minutes later, former Rover Carl Alford replaced the troublesome Lindegaard. With just two minutes to go Alford met a corner by McIndoe to fire the ball goalwards from 18 yards, but his shot was tipped around the post by Warrington. The ensuing corner was punched clear by Warrington. Warrington was again forced to punch the ball clear deep into injury time as he came out to meet Williams' cross.

Rovers did well to come out of the game with a point, bearing in mind all that Yeovil threw at them for much of the game. With other results seeing Chester lose their second match in a row, after being the last side to lose their unbeaten record, Rovers moved into second place on goal difference, five points behind Yeovil.
