Oscar Hold

News has finally been released that one of Doncaster Rovers' managers from the 1960's, Oscar Hold, has died just days before his 87th birthday. He died from bladder cancer in the Victoria Lodge nursing home in Sunderland last October.

After the war, he played for Aldershot, Notts County, Norwich City, Chelmsford City, Everton and Queens Park Rangers. His playing career ended after a clash of heads with the Welsh legend John Charles whilst playing for QPR, and he then turned to football management.
He was manager at Doncaster Rovers between 1962 and 1964, and put in place the side which won the Division Four championship in 1965/66. Ryan welcomes Macca back

It looks like Rovers winger Michael McIndoe will report back for pre-season training later this month along with the rest of the Doncaster Rovers squad. However, no approaches have been made, and Derby have not followed up their interest due to a change in manager during the summer.
Rovers chairman John Ryan confirmed that he would welcome McIndoe back, saying: "Personally speaking I am quite happy for Michael to play for us again next season. I spoke to him recently and I think that he's happy to give it another go at Doncaster. Michael's ambitious and wants to play in the Championship and I don't blame him for that, and as I told him during our conversation, he could be playing Championship football with us in 2007-2008."

We've gone for experience largely and signed players like Dyer, Horlock and Gareth Roberts who will not only bring bags of quality to the team but they are also strong characters to have in the camp who are still hungry for success."
