Roberts faces final challenge
Left back Gareth Roberts faces a race to be fit in time for the Rovers' appearance at the Millennium Stadium on April 1st. Roberts was carried off the pitch with a hamstring injury in the second half of Monday's game against Crewe. A tear of the hamstring is feared, but physio John Dickens was unwilling to speculate before the player had an ultrasound scan in Leeds yesterday, but said that if the hamstring was torn, Roberts faces around six weeks out of action. With the JPT final being around six weeks away, it is touch and go as to whether he will be fit in time.

Rovers get 21,500 tickets
Doncaster Rovers have received an initial allocation of 21,500 tickets for the Johnstone's Paints Trophy final at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, with up to a total of 32,000 being available should there be sufficient demand.
The club yesterday confirmed that, due to instructions given by the Millennium Stadium as to what order tickets should be sold, tickets have to be sold block-by-block in a set order, starting at the half way line. This is for the reason that, should either club fail to sell their full allocation, it would be possible to make the unsold seats available to the other club's supporers. This unfortunately means that you can only pick which category of seat you want.
Rovers confirmed that season ticket holders are eligible for two tickets per season ticket - but that season ticket holders can also buy four per person when they go on general sale next week, but unfortunately they will not be in the same area as the original two tickets.

Jason wins vote by huge margin
Jason Price won the latest "Man of the Match" vote for Monday's match against Crewe Alexandra, with not only the vote having the most votes cast so far this season, but also the vote saw one of the biggest victory margins ever experienced.
Price received nearly three-quarters of the votes cast - with a total of seven Rovers players receiving nominations, the players receiving 94% of the votes cast between them were:
1 Jason Price (72.26%)
2 Paul Heffernan (21.17%)
The other five players nominated shared the remaining 6.57% of the votes between them. Thank you all for your votes, which will all be carried forward to the "Player of the Season" totals. The next vote will open following Saturday's home game against Swansea City.

Cup final tickets
Tickets for the final of the Johnstone's Paints Trophy final at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, went on sale to season ticket holders at midday today. Season ticket holders must produce their season ticket book when buying tickets, as the ticket office require Special Voucher 1 from your book. Season ticket holders can buy two tickets per season ticket book. All details on the reverse need to be completed before arriving at the ticket office (including the full name and address of the guest you are buying a ticket for).
Tickets go on general sale from 9am on Thursday, 22nd February, with a limit of four tickets per person - the ticket office will be asking for names and addresses of all four people the tickets are being bought for.
As the voucher is required out of the season ticket book, the ticket office will not be posting out tickets ordered by season ticket holders. We presume this means that they will accept telephone orders, but they will have to be collected in person, which should at least mean that those living outside the Doncaster area will be able to obtain a ticket.
The final is on Sunday, 1st April, with a 1pm kick-off. Ticket prices are as follows:
Full Price Concessionary Rate (Over 60's & 16 and under)
£44.00 £22.00
£36.00 £18.00
£28.00 £14.00
£20.00 £10.00
Disabled supporters in a wheelchair: £20 - carer is free
Ambulant disabled - £20 - no carer discount
Tickets for under-16's can only be bought with an adult ticket.
Please note that no duplicate tickets will be issued by the Millennium Stadium, so personal collection is recommended. Any sent out by post will be sent by Recorded Delivery, which will cost £1. All telephone bookings will incur a £2 booking fee. The ticket office can not make any exchanges once tickets have been bought.

Rovers hit financial jackpot
Doncaster Rovers look set to land an impressive half a million pounds from their Johnstone's Paint Trophy appearance at Cardiff in April. Rovers are set to take 20,000 fans to Cardiff, with a total attendance of over 50,000 on the cards.
Rovers reached the final after the dramatic northern area final on Monday, which ironically they tried to get postponed due to a virus sweeping through the club.

Ross continues comeback
Former Rovers striker Ross McCormack, whose season has been largely disrupted due to a mystery virus which has ruled him out of action for most of the campaign, continued his comeback in Motherwell's reserves yesterday when he scored the only goal of the game to defeat Hearts at Fir Park.

Rovers striker Jason Price was nomiated for the League One "player of the month", but didn't quite get the award, which eventually went to Bristol City striker Enoch Showunmi. Price, who has been in terrific form lately, was nominated along with Luke Varney of Crewe and Darren Byfield of Millwall.

Blayney on trial

Former Doncaster Rovers goalkeeper Alan Blayney has gone to Oldham Athletic on trial after his proposed move to Brighton & Hove Albion fell through. Latics boss John Sheridan needs experienced goalkeeping cover for first-choice Les Pobliacomi. Usual deputy, first year pro Terry Smith is currently sidelined with a hand injury, and youth team keeper Ryan Smith sat on the bench last weekend.
Blayney is being assessed by Sheridan and his coaching staff this week before a decision will be made on whether to offer him a contract.

Cardiff, here we come!
Rovers 3 Crewe Alexandra 2
At half time, all seemed lost. Despite dominating possession, Rovers found themselves 2-0 down, with Crewe having just two shots on goal in the entire 45 minutes. However, in a dramatic second period, Rovers completely turned the fortunes of the game around. Firstly, a neat turn by Heffernan enabled him to spin and fire home Rovers' first goal in the 63rd minute. Twenty minutes later, Jason Price forced his way in to the penalty area on the right before being to give Rovers a penalty. Heffernan stepped up to slot the ball home - but the referee then made him take the kick again, presumably due to encroachment. Heffernan duly dispatched the second spot kick with aplomb to draw Rovers level. Then the true drama - with only a minute to go before penalties would apply, Jason Price fired Rovers in front, to send the 12,500 crowd into raptures. Rovers safely saw out the added on time to see the club reach a major final for the first time in their history.
Cardiff, here we come!
The "Man of the Match" voting has now closed. Thank you to everyone who has voted in the last 48 hours - early signs look like we've had a record number of votes - and unlike other "Man of the Match" votes, it's FREE! The result will be announced on Thursday morning.

Rovers v Crewe
Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll is likely to make a late decision on his side for this evening's televised match against Crewe Alexandra. With the winners of this evening's match going through to the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the Millennium Stadium, a virus is sweeping through the Rovers squad, which forced some absences on Saturday, and O'Driscoll confirming that four played despite suffering from symptoms of the bug.
However, Rovers have no new injury concerns following Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Tranmere.
Crewe had the luxury of not playing on Saturday, after their match was called off due to a frozen pitch. Defender Billy Jones is doubtful with a hamstring strain, although striker Nicky Maynard is likely to return after recovering from his hamstring injury. Veteran defender Neil Cox is unlikely to play, with Ben Rix likely to replace him after recovering from a hernia problem. Julien Baudet and Rodney Jack may also come back into contention after recovering from knee and calf injuries respectively.

Tranmere 1 Rovers 0
Doncaster Rovers lost this crucial League One match at Prenton Park after starting the match badly, conceding a fifth minute goal, scored by Chris Greenacre. After that, they played better, with Sean O'Driscoll saying that Rovers were the better team over the ninety minutes. Rovers' cause was not helped when a number of players, including leading scorer Paul Heffernan and striker Mark McCammon, were sent home suffering from a virus that is sweeping through the Rovers squad, which left the opening line-up rather shot-shy. Rovers are now three points behind the play-off places and drop to ninth place after this result, and have only 48 hours to recover before the crucial televised second leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Crewe, whose match was postponed today.
The "Man of the Match" voting for the Tranmere game will remain open until 5pm this afternoon. If you would like to take part, please click on the logo to the left.

Rovers v Tranmere team news
Doncaster Rovers are awaiting the fitness of four key first team players ahead of this afternoon's game at Prenton Park. Mark McCammon, Lewis Guy, James Coppinger and Paul Heffernan were all sent home yesterday as a precaution after reporting in with cold symptoms.
Defender Gareth Roberts will be restored to the starting line-up after Peter Gilbert returned to Sheffield Wednesday at the end of his loan period. James Coppinger (groin strain) and Jonathan Forte (knee) have all received treatment during the week and are expected to play.
Tranmere will be missing skipper Ian Goodison with an ankle injury, and striker Steve Davies is serving a one match suspension today. Also doubtful is Shane Sheriff (bronchitis) and John Mullin (calf).
Three former Tranmere players could feature in the Rovers squad today - Gareth Roberts, Jason Price and Sean Thornton.
Victory in today's match could see Rovers climb as high as sixth in the League One table - both Tranmere and Rovers are level on points before the match.

Injury update
Sean McDaid may be back in contention for a place in the first team by the end of February after a long lay-off following a knee ligament injury sustained against Accrington Stanley in November. Rovers hope that Sean will start full training next week, which is ahead of schedule. He has been training with the first team squad, but has not been allowed to do any contact work, and as long as there is no adverse reaction, he will be included in a reserve team match in a couple of weeks time.
Kevin Horlock, who has been absent virtually all season with a bad knee injury, is now making good progress. His latest visit to the specialist has resulted in him being able to step up his training over the next six weeks, after which he may be able to resume full training.
Striker Jon-Paul Pittman has a swollen knee, but Rovers hope to be able to assess the injury in in around a week's time, after the swelling has gone down.
Former youth team player Adam Brown is spending a week at Lilleshall as part of his rehabilition from a cruciate ligament injury. Rovers hope he will be able to resume playing next month.

Sean is Manager of Month
Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has been awarded the League One "Manager of the Month" for January, following wins over Huddersfield, Rotherham and Gillingham, and a draw against leaders Scunthorpe United. Belle Vue

Two men have been taken to hospital following an explosion at Belle Vue in the early hours of this morning. Whilst the cause of the blast is still being investigated, it is understood to have been caused by gas - either by the supply to the ground, or due to canisters which were being kept in the ground by the demolition contractors.
One man has been transferred to a specialist burns unit in Nottinghamshire, and the BBC reports that one man, in his 20's, has been arrested after receiving treatment at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and will be questioned later today.
Bawtry Road was closed for two hours whilst the gas supply to the main stand was isolated and the fire put out.

Gilbert recalled
Left back Peter Gilbert has returned to Sheffield Wednesday following his month on loan at Doncaster Rovers. Gilbert made his Rovers debut on 9th January in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy against Darlington, and played his last match in Saturday's home game against Carlisle United. Peter was signed by Rovers as cover for the left back position after Gareth Roberts' red card against Huddersfield left Rovers without a recognised left back, with Sean McDaid being absent due to injury.
Gilbert was loaned to Rovers by Sheffield Wednesday so that he could get some match practice after a cruciate ligament injury meant that he had not played a first team game for a year at Hillsborough. With Wednesday now suffering an injury crisis as far as their defenders are concerned, boss Brian Laws was keen to recall Gilbert, and he will come into contention for their game at the weekend.
February 7, 2007
Gregg off the mark
Former Rovers striker Gregg Blundell scored his first goal for Darlington last night as his new club won 2-1 at Bristol Rovers. Blundell scored in the seventh minute -his original shot being saved by the keeper, but the ball rebounded onto him and into the net. The win takes Dave Penney's men up into tenth place in League Two, eight points behind a play-off place.
February 7, 2007
Muirhead to Rochdale
Former Rovers midfielder Ben Muirhead is set to join Rochdale on a month's loan from Bradford City to gain some match practice. Muirhead has been out of action since suffering the injury on New Years' Day in Bradford's away game at Carlisle United.

Blayney deal off
The Brighton Argus has reported that the Alan Blayney's anticipated signing for Brighton & Hove Albion will not take place after the club and player could not agree a deal. Due to Blayney's injury-hit season, the club were only willing to offer him a contract until the end of the season, when the situation would be reviewed. Blayney was after an 18-month deal.
Speculation rose about the former Rovers keeper moving to the Withdean Stadium after news that he had been training with the club for the last few days. The collapse of the intended return of Blayney to the club meant that young keeper John Sullivan was on the bench for Albion on Saturday.
February 6, 2007
Mulligan dropped
Former Rovers defender Dave Mulligan was left out of last night's Scunthorpe United squad for their top of the table clash against Bristol City, with the Scunthorpe manager saying it was due to a "breach of club discipline".
February 6, 2007
O'Driscoll philosophical about defeat
Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll was in reflective mood following Saturday's defeat against Carlisle - their first home defeat since the 2-1 reverse against Gillingham - on 9th September.
"Win, lose or draw the routine remains the same; you cannot get carried away one way or another," said O'Driscoll. "I don't get carried away when we are winning games so I am not going to get carried away when we lose at home in the league for the first time in five months."
"Unfortunately, we didn't capitalise on our start and I thought that we were a bit lacklustre. I don't think that the game ever really got going and our passing wasn't up to our usual standard. But I thought that we did all the nitty-gritty stuff, which you have to do to win football games, really well and I thought that the one goal might be enough."

Rovers 1 Carlisle United 2
Doncaster Rovers' unbeaten record at the Keepmoat Stadium fell this afternoon despite going in front in the third minute when James Coppinger fired home from six yards out. After that, Carlisle had a farir bit of possession without getting near to the Rovers goal, and Rovers went in at half time one goal up. In the second half, the visitors were much more effective in midfield, allowing Rovers no time at all, and began to impose their will on the game. Nine minutes after the restart, Jeff Smith equalised with a 25-yard shot which beat a diving Ben Smith, then Karl Hawley curled a 30-yard shot into the net off the far post to give the Cumbrians victory. Lewis Guy had a great chance in the closing minutes, but blazed over when only eight yards out.
Rovers missed out on the chance of finishing the day in the play-off places with this defeat.

The goals review

We begin this week's review of former Rovers players scoring goals in League one, where Bruce Dyer marked his debut for Bradford City by scoring after just eight minutes in their home game against Nottingham Forest. In League Two, Ricky Ravenhill scored Darlington's goal at Macclesfield, after being picked out by Gregg Blundell in the 34th minute. A late Macclesfield goal meant the match finished 1-1.

Rovers v Carlisle team news
Jonathan Forte and James Coppinger are reported to be doubts for this afternoon's home game against Carlisle United with knee and hamstring injuries respectively. Adam Lockwood and Sean Thornton have been struggling with a virus during the week, so must also be considered doubts, but Mark McCammon looks set to be recalled to the squad after returning in Tuesday's game at Crewe.
Peter Gilbert is likely to play his last game for Rovers this afternoon, as his month's loan expires after today's game. For Carlisle, Johann Smith could make his debut after signing on loan from Bolton earlier in the week, but Danny Graham, Liam Atkin and Chris Lumsden (back, shin and ankle respectively) are struggling to be fit for the game.
In Rovers' favour, whilst the Cumbrians have done well this season following their promotion from League Two in the summer, they are the second-lowest goal scorers away from home - only bottom club Brentford have scored fewer goals.
February 3, 2007
Dino's a Diamond
Former Rovers striker Dino Maamria signed for Rushden & Diamonds from Southport before the transfer window closed at the end of January. Maamria had been wanting to join Rushden in a player/coach role, but Southport had been holding out for a better offer before releasing the player. Maamria has signed an 18-month contract at Nene Park, and rejoins manager Graham Westley, who was his manager when he was at Stevenage Borough.
Also on Rushden & Diamonds' books at the moment are Mark Albrighton, on loan from Boston United for the rest of the season, and Chris Beardsley, who signed on a free transfer from Mansfield Town last week.

Blayney set for Seagulls return?
It looks as though ex-Rovers keeper Alan Blayney could be about to return to Brighton & Hove Albion. Blayney was released from his Rovers contract recently, but it was confirmed earlier this week that Blayney would be training with the Seagulls with a view to signing for the club. With the fact that he was released by Rovers, he will be able to sign for another club even though the January transfer window has closed.
