Former
Doncaster Rovers defender Mark Albrighton has signed for Cambridge United
on a free transfer from Boston United. Albrighton was one of just seven

Thompson
set to leave |
![]() |
Former
Doncaster Rovers midfielder Tyrone Thompson is likely to leave Blue Square
Premier club Halifax Town after delaying on telling the club on whether
he would sign a new contract with the Shaymen. Four of the five players
out of contract during the summer have signed new deals (including ex-Rover
Andy Campbell), but the club are now making plans on the presumption that
Thompson will not be at the club next season. Thompson arrived two years
ago from Scarborough, and has played 79 matches during that time, mainly
as cover for ex-Rover Martin Foster and Steve Bushell. With Foster leaving
to join Rushden & Diamonds during the summer, Halifax will now have
to find new players for both central midfield places. |

McCammon
signs new contract |
![]() |
Rovers
striker Mark McCammon yesterday signed a new contract with Doncaster Rovers,
and will be hoping that he will be fit to challenge for a place by the
start of the new season. Mark missed the final part of last season after
dislocating his shoulder in the away game at Nottingham Forest. Staying
at Rovers means that the club will now have a strong strikeforce, which
currently comprises McCammon, Paul Heffernan, James Hayter, Lewis Guy
and Bruce Dyer - although we expect that Dyer will move on before the
start of the new season, after failing to hold down a first team place
last term. |

Rovers
report back |
![]() |
Many
of the Doncaster Rovers squad have reported in at Cantley Park this week
for five days of training, with the fitness of many of Rovers' stars being
assessed. Sean O'Driscoll has said that the squad will be concentrating
on running and strengthening work, which will be gradually increased during
the week. James Coppinger faces a decision on whether he will need an operation on a troublesome groin injury - experts have said that rest should settle the injury down, but Rovers will have to make a decision by the end of the week. Should it be necessary, James will be booked in for an operation as soon as possible, which should mean that he will be available for he start of the new season. Mark Wilson is recovering from a varicose vein operation, but took part in some of the sessions - Paul Heffernan and Steve Roberts, both of who missed the closing stages of last season, also reported back, as did Kevin Horlock. Mark McCammon is still recovering from his shoulder operation, but reported back and will be undertaking non-contact training this week. Finally, Jason Price is still some way off fitness - he is on schedule and is back running, but he will not be ready for the start of the season - September looks to be the earliest reasonable date to expect a possible return. |

League
close loophole |
![]() |
The
Football League have closed a loophole in their regulations which allowed
Leeds United to go into administration without having their 10 point deduction
carried over to next season. The AGM of the Football League - amazingly
they held the meeting in Portugal - decided unanimously that any club
going into administration after the fourth Thursday in March will have
their ten point deduction held over until the start of next season if
the club is relegated. If the club finishes the season outside the relegation
places, ten points will be taken off their final points total, with relegation
following if that deduction leaves them in a relegation place. Boston United, who went into administration in the second half of the last game of the season, were relegated to the Conference National (Now the Blue Square Premier League) after finishing bottom of League Two. However, they have now been demoted a further level following problems with the CVA - footballing debts will not be paid in full - and will play next season in the Blue Square North (the new name for the Conference North). |

struck for his first goal in the 7th minute with a shot from 20 yards,
with his secodn arriving in the 57th minute, when he side-footed home
a cross in from the left wing. Robert then set up Gisborne's fourth goal
by supplying the through-ball for Hickey to clip the ball over the faultless

Rovers'

elected to sign for Doncaster Rovers is that it will help his ambitions
of playing international football for Scotland. Woods has already played
at under-21 level, but the Scottish management then decided to stick with
players at higher level clubs. Woods said: "I didn't want to be playing in League Two next season as it's not going to progress my career. I don't think any call-ups would happen when I'm playing in League One. That's why I'm dying to get into the Championship and do it here." |

Mickey

Mickey
Walker has been quoted by Radio Sheffield as saying that Doncaster Rovers
hope to complete their transfer signings for this summer by the end of
this week. Rovers have been linked with a number of players during the
summer, including the Burnley (and ex-Bournemouth) duo Garreth O'Connor
and John Spicer. In a separate interview, Mickey reiterated the position that Rovers are looking for quality rather than quantity in this summer's signings. He said: "Things are going well. We've set our stall out to bring in some quality players and we are doing that. We've drawn up a wish list and it is two out of two at the moment (Hayter and Woods) and hopefully there will be more to come - though there won't be as many new faces as last year. Sean (O'Driscoll) has decided that everyone we bring in must be good enough to play in the first team and be able to provide competition for places." |

Bayo's
Swans talks delay |
![]() |
Big
striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has still to sign the one-year contract on offer
at Swansea City, but stressed that he was happy at the club. The former
Rovers striker signed for Swansea two years ago in a £100,000 transfer
from Torquay United, and has been hugely popular with the supporters at
the Liberty Stadium. Bayo said: “From a personal perspective, a one-year deal is fine for me. I say that because after that further options might open up either at Swansea or somewhere else. I love it at Swansea. I’ve really enjoyed my time there and it’s where my heart is to be honest. I love the set-up and the supporters have been fantastic to me. But my agent has had enquiries from other clubs, two from the Championship, and it is nice to know that interest is there if things don’t go to plan at the Liberty." “I have had some talks with the Swans, but they’ve stalled a bit, although I have been away for a couple of weeks. I’m in no rush. I want to make sure I make the right decision about my future. It’s just a matter of me now sitting down with my agent and seeing what can be worked out, but my aim really is to stay with Swansea.” Akinfenwa missed the last three months of the 2006/07 season after breaking his leg in the home game against Scunthorpe in February. |

New
signing James Hayter has joined Doncster Rovers to enjoy promotion, with
the ultimate aim of playing in the Premiership. The club record signing
has signed a three year deal, and shares the chairman's dream of top flight
football. He said: "I don't think the Premiership is a pipe dream and, if you speak to the chairman, I know he would say that too. Whether it's achievable or not, I don't know, but you have to set your targets as high as possible. You only have to look at what Reading have done. I have played against them over a good few years – but they got into the Championship, established themselves for a season, and got promoted again. It is there for you." |

Redfearn
after Boston job |
![]() |
Ex-Rovers
midfielder Neil Redfearn has expressed an interest in the vacant manager's
post at troubled Boston United. Redfearn has previously served as assistant
manager to Neil Thompson, and is keen to make a return. He told the Lincolnshire Echo: "I have spoken to people at the club through my agent but now it is down to the club," Redfearn told the Lincolnshire Echo. The catchment area for the club is there. When I was at Boston, we were attracting gates of around 3,500. It's a shame to see what's happened to them recently. The gates are down, but I firmly believe I could get the club feeling good about itself again. I've got my UEFA 'A' licence and have had plenty of experience as both player and coach and the Boston job appeals to me." The newly relegated club are still in limbo, with the sale of the club dragging on, meaning that they are unable to sign any new players - and run the risk that more of the few who remain contracted to the club, including ex-Rover Mark Albrighton, leaving, as they have not been paid for over three months. |

We have agents phoning all the time and I have a dossier of players who I have seen last season and the season before so it's a case of seeing if all these names fit into the way Dave wants to play. Traditionally wearers of red or white shorts, the black shorts of 1950 to 1953 (pictured) were paired with a white shirt with red trim. Rovers will also be wearing black socks in a move that is likely to upset many supporters who campaigned for the red and white hooped kit to return when the red shirt with black shorts of 2000/01 was disregarded. The new home shirt was revealed two days ago at the same time as the Martin Woods signing and is sticking with the red and white hoops. |

Clarrie Jordan scored a current club record of 42 games, They recorded 33 wins, 18 of which were away from home and scored 123 goals. The nil, nil draw against York City at Belle Vue in front of 15,070 spectators was one of just two games in which Rovers failed to score. He's had other offers from other clubs, but he wanted to come here. He's got plenty of pace and can play in one of three positions. Reserves
pull out of league |
![]() |
Doncaster
Rovers have pulled out of the reserves league - the Pontins Holidays League
- for next season, and will arrange a series of practice matches when
required, which will be played at the Cantley Park training ground. Rovers
played their home reserve matches at the second pitch at the Keepmoat
Stadium complex following their move from Belle Vue at the turn of the
year, apart from one, which was played in the main stadium. Whilst the Pontins League have been quoted as being unhappy as to the pitch the matches have been played on - the pitch was not enclosed, or that the dressing rooms are in the main stadium, and the players had to walk across the car park to get to the pitch. Allegations were also made that the league were unhappy with the floodlights being targeted at the athletics track rather than the pitch were also made, although the lights would have been able to be redirected. However, managing director Stuart Highfield explained: "We also had a glut of fixtures at the end of the season and because the first team was so badly hit by injuries we were forced to play some embarrassingly weak sides. By pulling out of the league we will be able to play practice games - some of which could be against Premiership clubs - as and when we need to either to keep players match fit or to give players a run-out after injury. The facilities at the training ground are first class. By playing games at the training ground it means that we will also be able to entertain visiting teams better. We'll monitor the situation next season." |

Goalkeeper
Neil Sullivan is expected to undergo a medical examination this week at
Doncaster Rovers, and will sign the contract on offer, provided he passes
the medical. Sullivan spent two successful spells on loan at Rovers last season, with his experience seen as being a key factor in Rovers' promotion challenge this season. Boss Sean O'Driscoll said: "Having a strong goalkeeper is one of the cornerstones of being a successful side and Neil fits the bill," said O'Driscoll. "He has been first class in his time with us. He is a great presence in the dressing room and has an open mind on how to do things." There is a press conference arranged 12.30pm tomorrow at The Keepmoat Stadium to announce a big new signing. Rovers' official site makes reference to "the lad" in it's signing article and by definition this seems to rule out that the imminent signing is Sullivan. |

The
latest sales figure for season tickets available from the Keepmoat Stadium
web site stands at 3,285 - which covers sales up to 30th May. Season
tickets went on general sale on 1st June - since that time, queues for
season tickets have been long, with some fans reporting that they have
had to wait three hours before reaching the front of the queue. It certainly
looks promising that John Ryan's ambitious hopes for season ticket sales
for next season will be met - with the signing of James Hayter, and
the promise of news of the arrival of more players certain to heighten
expectation further, season ticket sales of between 5,000 and 6,000
look quite possible. The ticket office will be open between 9am and 4pm today to enable supporters who work during the week to get their season tickets without any delay. The ticket office will be open normal hours next week - 9am to 4.30pm (Monday to Wednesday), Thursday 9am to 7pm and 9am to 4pm on Friday. |

Such is his impact that Gisborne manager, Pedro Garcias, commented in an interview before this weekend's game against Western Suburbs: "Suburbs are a good team and will be hard to beat. They play fast, clever football and know that Gill and fellow striker Lance Eeson will be a big danger to them. No doubt they will plan accordingly. The
Non League web site has reported that Doncaster Rovers will play a pre-season
game away at Sheffield FC on Thursday, 12th July. This is the same date
that Rovers are due to play a match at Worksop Town, so we presume the
Sheffield fixture will involve the youth team. The currently advertised pre-season schedule is: 10th July 2007 Retford (away) - kick-off 7:30pm 12th July 2007 Worksop Town (away) - kick-off 7:30pm 14th July 2007 Manchester City (home) - kick-off 3:00pm 21st July 2007 York City (away) - kick-off 3:00pm 25th July 2007 Wolves (home) - kick-off 7:30pm 28th July 2007 Hull City (home) - kick-off 3:00pm 3rd August 2007 Manchester Utd (home) - kick-off 7:45pm |
