Scunthorpe 2 Rovers 0
Hopefully it doesn't get any worse than this. What was undoubtedly the worst Rovers performance of the season meant that Rovers deservedly went down to a defeat at Glanford Park this lunch time, after a lacklustre performance meant that the home goalkeeper had not a single save to make in the entire ninety minutes. The first half was goalless, with Rovers successfully keeping the Scunthorpe strike force of Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh at distance, but it all fell apart after the break. Rovers had at least seemed fairly solid in the first half, but the substitution of Theo Streete (making his Rovers debut) with Jonathan Forte seemed a strange decision - and so it proved to be. What was probably an attacking move backfired - not that Forte did anything particularly wrong, but it was a strange coincidence that it took only four minutes after that substitution for Scunthorpe to take the lead through Billy Sharp, who forced his way through the centre of the Rovers defence before shooting from eight yards out. The second goal, fourteen minutes later, was equally as poor from a defensive point of view, this time with Keogh taking advantage of confusion in the Rovers defence to find enough space to score.
The "Man of the Match" voting has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote.

Rovers v Scunthorpe team news
Doncaster Rovers will have to make at least one change for this afternoon's match against Scunthorpe United. Skipper Graeme Lee will miss the game due to suspension after receiving a second yellow card in Tuesday's 3-3 draw against Bradford City. Goalkeeper Alan Blayney continues to be absent due to an infection in his elbow which required a brief stay in hospital earlier in the week.
Rovers may include Bruce Dyer and Kevin Horlock in the squad after then successfully came through a friendly fixture against Leeds United on Monday.
Scunthorpe may also be without their captain, Andy Crosby, for today's game at Glanford Park. Crosby suffered a back injury in their game at Chesterfield on Wednesday. Richard Hinds is set to move into central defence to deputise, with former Rovers utility player Dave Mulligan set to be recalled to the right back position. Rovers are likely to be up against Scunthorpe's prolific teenage strike force of Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh, who scored 40 goals between them last season.

Please remember that today's match at Scunthorpe kicks off at midday, and is all ticket. No tickets will be on sale at Glanford Park or Belle Vue today, so please do not travel if you do not already have a ticket.
The local police have also requested that you should try to get to the ground early due to the expected heavy congestion in the area caused by a larger than usual number of people travelling in cars.

Ricky scores
Ex-Rovers midfielder Ricky Ravenhill scored Grimsby's dramatic equaliser eight minutes from time, with his side having to come back from two goals down at Darlington last night. Fortunes changed when Darlington's Darren Holloway was sent off after conceding a 65th minute penalty, then near the end, Ravenhill pounced on a loose ball after the Darlington keeper failed to keep hold of a shot from Thorpe, to earn a point.
And yes, Ravenhill did get booked!

The BBC have reported that up to six candidates were due to meet a selection panel yesterday with former England striker Les Ferdinand understood to be the leading contender. Also said to be in contention are Rob Lee, Andy Hessenthaler and former Rovers manager Dave Penney!

Get there early!
All supporters travelling to Scunthorpe for tomorrow's League One game are urged to get there early to help avoid traffic congestion in the area of the ground. With it being a local derby, the local police expect many Rovers fans to travel in their own cars. Glanford Park has its own car park, but the police have reminded fans that there are several parking restrictions in the roads in the area, including the A1077 and local housing estates. Traffic wardens, special constables and police community support officers will be patrolling the area to enforce parking legislation, so we urge all Rovers fans to be careful as to where you park.
Humberside Police have also confirmed that local pubs will not be opening before the match; some are not intending to open until 3pm, which should be after many Rovers fans have left the area.

Big Leo heads west
Former Doncaster Rovers striker Leo Fortune-West has joined Torquay United on a month's loan from Rushden & Diamonds. Fortune-West has been signed to cover for injured striker Micky Evans, who will be absent for three weeks with a calf strain.
Torquay manager Ian Atkins, himself a former Rover, said: "I've known Leo for many years and he is the ideal replacement whilst Micky is out plus it takes the pressure off his recovery time. Rather than maybe rushing him back too soon we can make sure that the strain is completely cleared up. Leo will drop right into that position and once again Jamie Ward has a big 'un to feed off".

Leeds 1 Rovers 1

Doncaster Rovers played a "behind closed doors" friendly fixture at Leeds United's Thorpe Arch training ground near Wetherby yesterday, with both clubs taking the opportunity to give players who had not played recently the chance of a game. Rovers included Kevin Horlock, who has barely featured since Sean O'Driscoll took over, and Bruce Dyer made his first appearance since having a hernia problem. Rovers broke the deadlock when Leeds scored, although there looked to be a supsicion of offside against the goal scoer. The Rovers equaliser arrived in the 78th minute when a thunderous header by Bruce Dyer gave the goalkeeper little chance.

Todd complains of lack of touchline security

Bradford City manager has called for increased touchline security following his experiences in Tuesday night's draw at Belle Vue. Todd was involved in a number of angry "exchanges" with Rovers fans at the back of the dugout, and felt so strongly with the situation that he watched the first twenty minutes of the second half from the directors box. Todd said: "I think the League Managers' Association are aware of the problem and other managers are saying it too. We get lots of abuse but as soon as we turn around and give a little bit back they are like a pack of wolves. We get the stewards with us but we never see the police. I like a bit of banter but fans can be very hostile and you never know what could happen in this day and age. We have to try and educate some elements. There is one obvious answer and that is to make the dugout further away from the supporters in the bigger arenas."
Rovers' chief executive Dave Morris said: "I did not see what went on, but I have spoken to our safety officer. When the police were brought to Colin for him to discuss it further, he did not want to. That was the end of the matter as far as we are concerned. But if Colin comes here again and wants a special arrangement, we will try and help."

Rovers 3 Bradford City 3
Rovers staged a remarkable comeback after a truly horrendous start to this evening's game, which put them a goal behind in the first minute as an unchallenged run down the right wing was crossed into the middle for Dean Windass to head home from three yards out with a free header. It got worse- a very similar move doubled Bradford's lead in the 23rd minute. Rovers started their comeback just before half time as Paul Green latched onto a rebound from the keeper to score from close range. Rovers equalised, again a goal by Paul Green, in the 51st minute, and then a truly incredible strike by James Coppinger put Rovers in front. Rovers then played some very good football, and were denied two further goals by the offside flag, but that man Windass, after scoring two goals earlier in the game, struck again. Not with a goal - but for his second match in a row, he engineered a situation to get someone sent off. This time, Rovers skipper was the unfortunate recipient of a second yellow card of the evening as a challenge on the edge of the penalty area looked well timed, but for a theatrical collapse by the Bradford striker, making Lee's departure inevitable. However, a great match to watch, full of incident, six goals - and it could have been more.
The "Man of the Match" voting has now closed. Thank you very much to everyone who has voted. We will let you know the result on Friday morning.

McSporran switch
Former Rovers winger Jermaine McSporran has left Kidlington after playing just two games to join Banbury United. McSporran joined Kidlington, who play in the Sport Italia Hellenic League, about a week ago after being released by Chester City. He got the opportunity to move up a couple of divisions in the league pyramid to join Banbury, who play in the Southern League Premier Division. He went straight into their squad to play at Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday, which ended in a goalless draw.

Rovers v Bradford City team news
Rovers look likely to make at least one change for this evening's game against Bradford following Gareth Roberts limping off towards the end of Saturday's game against Blackpool. Whilst an X-Ray did not show that his ankle was broken, Roberts' ankle is badly bruised, and he is rated at only 50/50 to be fit to play tonight. Steve Roberts is also unlikely to play tonight as he continues to recover from a calf injury. Also likely to be missing are Bruce Dyer, who has been visiting a chiropracter in a bid to get fit, and Kevin Horlock, who needs match practice after recovering from knee surgery.
Bradford City manager Colin Todd is likely to name an unchanged side from the one that won at Cheltenham on Saturday. Former Rovers player Ben Muirhead, who has missed much of the season due to injury, will miss out after news emerged that he is waiting for further surgery following a hernia operation.

In the English non-league scne, Rod Thornley scored Altrincham's opening goal as they won 2-0 at home to Tamworth in the Conference, and the Conference North saw Duane Darby net Nuneaton Borough's goal in their 1-1 draw at home to Farsley Celtic.

Penney for Leeds?
Following the sacking of Kevin Blackwell at Leeds United last week, the speculation begins to build as to who might replace him as manager at Elland road. The "Daily Record" website suggests that Alan Curbishley is favourite for the job, at odds of 5/6, with former Rovers striker Mike Newll 12/1 and Dave Penney at 50/1
Other odds for the job include Glenn Hoddle (13/2), Dennis Wise (7/1), Claudio Ranieri (8/1), Micky Adams, Gary McAllister (10/1), David O'Leary, Bryan Robson (33/1), Eddie Gray, Peter Reid, Gordon Strachan, Paul Sturrock (50/1).

Sam to go on loan
Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce has circulated a list of his younger players who are available to go out on loan to gain valuable first team experience, which include Sam Oji, who spent a month on loan at Rovers last season. Bruce commented: "'We have put a list out to the lower division clubs with the younger lads that we've got available to go out on loan to further their footballing educations. There are about four of five players, with the likes of Peter Till, Sam Oji, Mat Birley and Ollie Allen. Once a young player has played in the reserves for 12 or 18 months they're ready to move on a bit and play against men in the first team."

Rovers 0 Blackpool 0
A goalless draw it was, and a goalless draw it deserved to be. A desperately disappointing match was played at Belle Vue this afternoon, with neither side extending the opposing keeper unduly. The nearest either side got came in the first half as a free kick, taken by Brian Stock wide on the left some 25 yards from goal, looked to be dipping under the crossbar before the goalkeeper tipped the ball over. Apart from that, the on-shot total was nil. More worrying was the substitution of Gareth Roberts in the last quarter of the match with what appeared to be an ankle injury; we understand that he has since gone to hospital to have a scan done.
The "Man of the Match" voting is now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Cup draws - both away matches
Doncaster Rovers have been drawn away from home in both of the cup draws to be made this morning.
The Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round draw saw Rovers drawn away at Huddersfield Town, with the match to be played in the week commencing Monday, 16th October.
The third round draw of the Carling Cup saw Rovers avoid the "big guns", which would have given the a potential financial jackpot - but whilst the draw will see them play away at Wycombe Wanderers, it should be a "winnable" match, giving Rovers another chance at the big clubs in the fourth round. The next round of the Carling Cup wil be played in ten week commencing Monday, 23rd October.

Boss praises Rovers
New Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll praised the efforts of his players as they dumped Championship club Derby County out of the Carling Cup on Wednesday evening. His Rovers players held their nerve in a superb penalty shoot-out, not missing one of the eight taken. The Rovers boss said: "I have never seen so many good penalties. We stuck in and played when we could play and defended really well, you need a bit of luck as well. We lost Graeme Lee and James Coppinger in training but the boys who came in did really well and showed a great deal of commitment and desire."
Lee and Coppinger pulled out of the game after picking up injuries in training, with Steve Roberts coming in to replace Lee and, despite not having returned to full training, played almost the whole ninety minutes.
The draw for the third round of the Carling Cup will be made on Sky Sports tomorrow lunchtime.

McSporran for Kidlington
Former Doncaster Rovers winger Jermaine McSporran has signed for Sport Italia Hellenic League club Kidlington after leaving Cheter City "by mutual consent" a few weeks ago. McSporran joined Kidlington last Friday, and scored the winning goal as they beat Chipping Norton Town 3-2 in their Premier Division match the following day.
He has teamed up with Kidlington boss Paul Lee for a second time - Lee gave him his first chacne in football when he was the manager of Abingdon Town, the duo then went to Oxford City, from which McSporran then was transferred to Wycombe Wanderers.
"I have always kept in contact with Jermaine since he left City and I asked him if he wanted to play a few games for us," said Lee. "I was very pleased Jermaine joined us. Although he hadn't played for four weeks, he was a different class on Saturday. He still has frightening pace. He decided to sign on Friday. We had to contact the FA to get clearance and said it was fine as he was a free agent. I know Nationwide Conference National sides Crawley Town and Stevenage Borough are interested in signing him. We realise he is not going to stay here. He's just come in to help us out for a while."

Rovers win dramatic penalty shoot-out
Doncaster Rovers are back on the Carling Cup train, although they made it hard for themselves. They roared into a 2-0 half time lead, thanks to goals by Jonathan Forte and Brian Stock - and it got better in the second half when Jonathan Forte got a second goal, bundling the ball home after the Derby goalkeeper had brilliantly saved his initial shot. Derby then pulled back three goals in the last sixteen minutes to make the score level at 3-3. After six goals in the ninety minutes, it was perhaps surprising that extra time was goallless, but a key moment could have been when Lupoli (who was part of Arsenal's side to play at Belle Vue last season) was sent off for a second bookable offence. The scores ended at 3-3 at the end of extra time, and it was down to penalties, with Rovers having Jan Budtz, the hero of the second round penalty shoot-out against Manchester City last season, looking to repeat his performance.
As it turned out, neither goalkeeper saved a single penatly. An immaculately taken set of penalties by both sides saw the scores locked at 7-7, with a 100% success rate. Nyatanga then stepped up for Derby, but blasted his kick well wide of the left post. James O'Connor then stepped up to confidently crack home Rovers' final penalty to enable them to claim another higher league scalp.
Next stop - the third round draw on Saturday morning!
The "Man of the Match" voting has now closed. We'll let you know the result on Saturday morning.

Rovers v Derby team news

Rovers look likely to stick with the majority of the side that played in Saturday's goalless draw at Rotherham for this evening's home Carling Cup tie against Derby County. Kevin Horlock played an hour of the "behind closed doors" match at Sunderland on Monday, and may play some part in tonight's game, but Bruce Dyer and Alan Blayney will miss out due to injury. Defender Steve Roberts is reported to be avaialble for selection this evening.
Derby will give a fitness test to full back Marc Edworthy, who picked up a hamstring injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Preston, before naming their side, which could see former Rovers favourite Darren Moore making a Belle Vue return.
Derby manager Billy Davies looked forward to this evening's game, saying: "I think every game has to be taken seriously and if we can get past this round then the fingers will be crossed that we can get a big club. It would be the first good run for a number of years at this club but the focus is firmly on Doncaster and that will be a very tough game."

The bar will be open, and, of course, fans will be able to stay on after the meeting and mingle with some of the guests informally as well as continuing to enjoy a drink. The formal business will only take a maximum of 15 minutes, so we will have plenty of time to take full advantage of this great panel of guests. Please do your best to come along.

Rigo for Rovers

Former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Adriano Rigoglioso has signed for Forest Green Rovers on a month's loan from Morecambe, and went straight into the squad for this evening's Conference National game at home to Altrincham. Not only that, but he opened the scoring in the match, scoring in the sixth minute! The move to Forest Green comes after he finally signed for Morecambe during in March, and sees Rigoglioso reunited with former Morecambe Boss Jim Harvey to become Harvey's first signing since taking over as boss. This season, he had only made one appearance for Morecambe despite signing a twelve month contract in the summer.

Rotherham apology

Rotherham United have issued an official apology for an article that appeared in Rotherham United's match day programme on Saturday. The writer of the article, Timothy Green of the London Millers Supporters Group, will not write for their programme again.
Rotherham's statement reads:
"On behalf of everyone here at Rotherham United sincere apologies are extended to all Doncaster Rovers supporters concerning an article in the Rotherham United programme last Saturday when the supporters were given a completely unwarranted tag.
This was entirely uncalled for and if more time had been permitted, it would have been edited out. Rovers fans can be assured that the comments certainly do not reflect the feelings of Rotherham United, they are purely and simply the feelings of one person who has been told that his contributions are no longer welcome.
Everyone at Millmoor looks forward to maintaining a happy working relationship with their close neighbours."

Sunderland XI 4 Rovers 1
Sunderland's official website has reported that a Sunderland XI beat Doncaster Rovers this afternoon at the Stadium of Light. Few details of the Rovers side were mentioned in their match report, apart from the fact that Sean Thornton featured in the game, but it was Jonathan Forte that caught the eye of their match reporter.
Sunderland's side featured a "strong looking team featuring players pushing for first-team places" - and it appears that Rovers scored first in the game, with Jonathan Forte opening the scoring after ten minutes with a blistering 25 yard shot.
Sunderland equalised within a couple of minutes, and went into the lead in the 17th minute, and were 3-1 up at the break. The final goal was scored in the 67th minute.

Boss happy with progress
New Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has spoken of his views on the team after seeing them battle to a second successive goalless draw at Millmoor on Saturday. Away matches at both Huddersfield and Rotherham have not been happy hunting grounds of late for Rovers, so a point out of each game is perhaps a reasonable achievement, especially with the team in a transitionary stage whilst the new management duo put new ideas into place.
O'Driscoll said: "After two games I've seen some encouraging things for the future. We've worked hard in training and changed a few things round, but change takes time and this game has improved the big picture. Everyone has played their part."
Millers boss Alan Knill said of Saturday's game: 'I have to say I though it was a great game between two teams who really wanted to pass the ball about so it was a good advertisement for football. It was good for us and after Tuesday's game they changed their system to play us and they made it difficult for us. It poses questions all the time and the whole game was one of tactics and it really rested on which full backs could get forward the most.'

Rotherham apologize over programme comment
Doncaster Rovers have received a number of complaints over the weekend about some comments made by one of the contributors to the Rotherham programme on Saturday. We are pleased to note that the Rotherham Chief Executive, Paul Douglas, recognised the error, and had apologized to John Ryan before the matter had been raised with them. We have been assured that the author of the item will not be allowed to contribute to their programme in the future. Rovers have accepted Rotherham's apology, and hopefully the matter is now resolved.

Goals time
The number of former Rovers scoring goals yesterday was down on recent weeks, with all the instances we spotted being in non-league football.
Dino Maamria scored twice for Southport, once from the penalty spot, as his side beat Crawley 3-1 at Haig Avenue. In the Conference (North), Martin Pemberton scored the only goal of the game as Farley Celtic beat Hucknall Town, and Tristram Whitman gave Alfreton Town a great start by scoring inside two minutes of their game against Moor Green - the final score ended 3-0 to Alfreton.

Rotherham 0 Rovers 0
Doncaster Rovers were held to a goalless draw at Millmoor this afternoon, but had a couple of good chances to take all three points. Rovers started the brighter of the two sides, gaining a good bit of possession, and took until the 20th minute for Rotherham to get back into the game, but Rovers' defence held firm. The rest of the half was more end-to-end, but James Coppinger should have done better when receiving the ball back from Heffernan just before the break, but the Rovers winger blazed the ball just wide.
Rotherham were on top for the second half of the match, with Partridge firing just wide, but Rovers still pressed forward, with Lee heading just wide following a corner, but then Rotherham had their best spell of the match, with Budtz punching away a good shot from Keane. Rotherham ended the game on top, but the Rovers defence comfortably held form to keep a second successive clean sheet.
The "Man of the Match" voting has now closed. Thank you to everyone who has taken part. The result wil be released on Tuesday morning.

Rotherham - some tickets on sale today
Due to what Rovers describe as an "internal communication error" at Belle Vue, it now appears that some tickets will be on sale at Millmoor this afternoon. Rovers have returned about 250 tickets for the game, but those unsold tickets will now be on sale on the gate this afternoon. However, once that allocation sells out, they have stated that there will be no further tickets available for Rovers fans.
It appears that due to a computer problem in the Rotherham ticket office, they have not been able to issue tickets to their supporters, therefore they will be able to pay on the gate. However, as it is uncertain that you will be admitted to any other part of the ground other than the Railway End, we would urge Rovers fans that are not able to get into the away end end not to try and gain entry elsewhere. In any case, Rotherham United are urging supporters to get to the ground early to avoid any last minute congestion at the turnstiles.

Rovers team news
Doncaster Rovers will be forced to make two changes to their side for this afternoon's game at Millmoor, with Alan Blayney and Steve Roberts unavailable due to injury. Jan Budtz, who came on as substitute for the second half of the Huddersfield match, will continue in goal, with Ben Smith being on the bench. Roberts is set to miss a few matches after damaging his calf muscle at Huddersfield - Adam Lockwood is likely to deputise this afternoon.
Kevin Horlock and Bruce Dyer have both resumed training, but are not likely to be risked in today's match.
Rovers will be playing in their new blue away kit this afternoon. The "Man of the Match" voting will open this evening.

Rotherham team news
After being given the boost that they have now registered enough points to wipe out the ten point deduction imposed by the Football League in the summer (owing to them going into administration), Rotherham United will be looking to move off zero points this afternoon, with Rovers not having won at Millmoor since March 1985. The last match between the two clubs was at Christmas last season, with Paul Heffernan controversially sent off for diving in the penalty area - a decision that the referee later apologised for. Not only were Rovers denied a penalty, but Rotherham then scored a late winner to send Rovers away pointless from the game.
Rotherham will be missing Colin Murdoch with a hernia problem, but Michael Keane will be hoping for a recall after regaining fitness, with midfielder Justin Cochrane set to make his second start of the week after showing no ill effects from Tuesday's match, when he returned after a cartliage operation.
