Doncaster
Rovers should have Gareth Roberts and Jason Price available for selection
in tomorrow's home game against Yeovil Town. Roberts has regained fitness
after a hernia operation, and Price is now fit again after overcoming
a back injury. Rovers will be looking to improve on their recent run of
draws on Sunday as they try to keep in touch with the top six. Gordon Greer is unlikely to feature after missing training this week due to a groin injury. Also definitely missing will be Paul Heffernan (ankle) and Graeme Lee (knee). Yeovil, on the other hand, have no injury worries at all, with a full squad to select from, with Nathan Jones returning after completing a suspension. |

We
would like to apologise for the substantial delay in announcing the winner
of the latest "Man of the Match" voting for last Saturday's
away game at Oldham Athletic. The voting turned out to be a convincing
victory for Rovers goalkeeper Neil Sullivan, who won over three-quarters

remaining votes fairly evenly. Thank you to all those who took the trouble to vote - the next vote will open following Sunday's home game against Yeovil Town. We would also like to apologise for the lack of updates on the site this week, due to circumstances beyond our control. Hopefully, normal service is now resumed. |

A
controversial equaliser from the penalty spot by James Hayter earned Rovers
what could prove to be a valuable point in yesterday's League One encounter
at Boundary Park. Rovers had been behind in the game since the closing
moments of the first half, with Lee Hughes appearing to use his arm to
deflect a shot from Mark Allott into the Rovers goal. With the match played
in appalling conditions, Oldham had the better of the first half, although
Lewis Guy was unlucky when his shot hit the outside of the post. Rovers
equalised just two minutes from the end of the second half when Paul Green
was judged to have gone down inside the penalty area under a challenge
from Chris Taylor. The Oldham players insisted that the offence took place
a yard outside the box, but the match official pointed to the spot, with
James Hayter keeping his cool to fire home the spot kick. The point means that Rovers maintain their 7th position in the League One table. |

We
begin our review of former Rovers players scoring goals yesterday in the
Championship, where Jonathan Forte scored the equaliser for Scunthorpe
against Queens Park Rangers in their 2-2 draw. In Scotland, Ross McCormack's deflected shot off Marius Zaliukas earned Motherwell a 2-1 victory over Hearts to keep his club nicely positioned in third place in the Scottish Premier League. Dropping down into the English non-league scene, veteran striker Neil Grayson scored a 67th minute goal for struggling Stafford Rangers - but they still went down to a 4-3 defeat at Blue Square National leaders Aldershot. Former youth team player Michael Rankine scored twice for Rushden in their 4-1 victory at Droylsden. Finally, in the Blue Square North, Ben Saunders scored one of Hucknall Town's three goals in their 3-1 home win over Tamworth. |

Oldham
v Rovers |
![]() |
The
fourth encounter of the season between the two sides sees Rovers without
injury victims Paul Heffernan, Gareth Roberts and Graeme Lee, with late
decisions being made on the fitness of Sean McDaid and Brian Stock. Stock has not trained all week, suffering from a back complaint - Paul Green, who played in place of McDaid on Tuesday, also has a sore back but is likely to be fit to play. McDaid is unlikely to be risked after injury forced him off against Brighton, meaning that it is likely that James O'Connor is likely to continue at left back, with Green in the right back role. Jason Price will be available for selection after recovering from a back complaint. Oldham boss John Sheridan is helped by the return of defenders Ryan Bertrand and Neal Trotman, who returned for their midweek game against Luton - John Thompson is also available after recovering from a knee operation. On-loan defender Ryan Bertrand, who was cup-tied for the last match between Rovers and the Latics, is available, although skipper Sean Gregan will miss the game as he faces surgery on an on-going Achilles tendon injury. Also missing are Andy Liddell and Les Pogliacomi. |

McGuire
future uncertain |
![]() |
The
prospect of former Rovers defender Phil McGuire remaining at Inverness
after his loan from Dunfermline runs out in January have been thrown into
confusion this week after Dunfermline boss Stephen Kenny was sacked. The
chances are further complicated by rumours of Kenny's replacement being
former Inverness manager John Robertson. However, Caley's player/manager
Craig Brewster has been in talk with the 27-year old centre back's agent
and hopes that the player will stay after the end of his loan. McGuire's contract with Dunfermline runs out at the end of the season - of eight matches Inverness have played since his arrival, they have won five and drawn one. Brewster said: "Phil knows how much I rate him. I think he is enjoying being here and I am currently speaking to his agent to see what we can do. His contract finishes in the summer at Dunfermline and you hope when a player enjoys their time at a club they are happy to stay. We are really keen to keep him, he knows that and that is the most important thing." |

update |

Sean
McDaid us doubtful for tomorrow's away game at Oldham Athletic, after
picking up an injury during Tuesday evening's home game against Brighton
& Hove Albion. McDaid has been having treatment, with Rovers likely
to wait until the last minute before making a decision. Striker Jason Price is likely to be in the squad for tomorrow's game after a scan revealed that he will not face a lengthy absence due to a back injury, which is put down to "wear and tear". Price has resumed training and will be available for selection. Also likely to return is midfielder Brian Stock, who missed Tueday's game due to a back injury. He is due to resume training today, and presuming there are no complications, he could return tomorrow. The other injured players are not set for return this weekend. Graeme Lee is progressing well, but it will be about six weeks before he is likely to resume playing and Gareth Roberts is set to resume full training on Monday following a hernia operation. |

Maybe
a draw shouldn't have been a surprise this evening - the two sides began
the match side by side in the league table, with only a goal in goal difference
separating them. Brighton had also drawn their last three league matches. As it was, neither side was able to break the deadlock, although Brighton had one chance cleared off the line by Martin Woods, and Sullivan saved a late attempt. More worrying on the night was the injury to Sean McDaid, who battled on after being victim to a "robust" challenge on the half-way line after half an hour of play, which forced his withdrawal from the proceedings just before the break. Paul Green had a couple of chances late on in the game as he broke in from the right, but his shots hit the side netting. Both sides maintained their place in the league table, seven points behind of leaders Swansea City. The "Man of the Match" voting is now open. Former
Doncaster Rovers goalkeeper Alan Blayney has been released by Irish club
Bohemians after less than six months at Dalymount Park. Bohs boss Brian
Murphy has given an extended deal to ex-Manchester City trainee Brian
Murphy, meaning that Blayney is now surplus to requirements. Blayney's career began with Southampton, but moved to Rovers searching for regular first team football. Unfortunately, his time at Rovers failed to provide that, and he moved on to Oldham after being released by Rovers. He left Oldham at the end of last season, mainly being used there as goalkeeping cover for the promotion run-in when the Latics had no available goalkeeper for the bench - and he moved to Ireland to play for Bohemians as cover for first choice Murphy. The Irish season has now finished, with Bohemiands finishing in third place. Blayney's release means that he will be able to move on to another club in the January transfer window. |

review |
| |
With
Rovers out of action this weekend, we take the opportunity to look at
the fortunes of some former Rovers players this weekend. Only three games took place in the Blue Square Premier League yesterday due to the FA Cup matches, but in one, Jon-Paul Pittman scored for Crawley in their 1-1 draw at York City, a result that sees both clubs remain comfortably in mid-table. In the Scottish First Division, Colin Cramb equalised for Stirling Albion in their home game against leaders Hamilton, but further goals, including one from ex-Rover Richard Offiong, consigned Stirling to a 4-2 home defeat. That leaves Stirling rooted to the bottom of the table, and Hamiltion remaining three points clear at the top. Lee Warren was on the scoresheet yesterday afternoon, although he won't thank us for mentioning it. His own goal whilst playing for Brigg Town against Kidsgrove Athletic was part of a disastrous afternoon for his club - a 3-1 home defeat meant that they drop to the bottom of the UniBond First Division (South). |

Former

City following the expiry of his loan at Leyton Orient. Oji had to go
back to Birmingham after being at Brisbane Road for 93 days - the maximumn
allowed under Football League loan regulations. Orient boss Martin Ling
has already said that he will consider making a move for the player when
the transfer window opens in January, saying: "The lad knows that
if Birmingham are prepared to release him that I'd be more than interested
in taking him for the rest of the season. I know he hasn't had that much
pitch time while he has been with us, but in the games he has played Sam
has done well. I've also been impressed with him on the training pitch,
and perhaps some of the fans haven't really seen what he can do. But he
looks a solid defender and his attitude is good, so I'd be more than comfortable
to fetch Sam back into the building if the chance should arise." |

Nine
Millwall fans have been arrested in London in connection with an outbreak
of hooliganism at the Keepmoat Stadium at the beginning of the season.
"Operation Adroit" is the police investigation into the incident
on 11th August, when a number of Millwall supporters broke through the
segregation area in the North Stand and headed towards the home fans in
the West Stand. Additional police officers were called into the gorund,
with batons and PAVA spray used to restore order. Police from Doncaster have been working with colleagues at Lewisham police station to identify possible offenders, and officers from Doncaster travelled to Lewisham police station on 21st and 22nd November to arrest and interview nine Millwall supporters for offences of violent disorder. Seven were men between the ages of 18 and 33 from South London, one a 20-year old man from West London, and one a female in her early 20's. All nine have been bailed to reappear at Lewisham Police Station in January. A further seven people are being sought by police in connection with the incident and their photos will shortly be released to media in the Lewisham area. |

Rovers, Australian style, have celebrated their 40th anniverary recently

![]() |
After
a first half showing that promised much, Rovers had to settle for going
in at the break all square after Oldham equalised on the stroke of half
time. Rovers had gone in front with a goal by Mark McCammon, who side-footed
the ball home whilst totally unmarked eight yards from goal - and thought
he had scored a second with a great header barely two minutes later -
but it was disallowed, we can onlyguess at an off-side decision as play
recommenced amidst confusion from the Rovers fans. Oldham's second goal
came early in the second half, with Adam Lockwood slipping at a crucial
moment, leaving Gary McDonald a clear shot on goal. Sadly, Rovers then
threatened very little as Oldham gained in confidence, with the away keeper
rarely being troubled in the remainder of the game. So Rovers are out of the FA Cup and without a game on Saturday, hopefully leaving plenty of time for preparation for the home game against Brighton next Tuesday. The "Man of the match" voting has now closed. The result will be announced on Saturday afternoon. |

Doncaster
Rovers face Oldham Athletic this evening for the third time this season
in the FA Cup first round replay, with the winners due to be at home to
Crewe Alexandra in the second round on Saturday. Rovers will be without Paul Heffernan, who injured his ankle against Port Vale, and is due to have an MRI scan on the injury tomorrow. Mark Wilson, who was also substituted due to injury on Saturday, is rated as doubtful and will have a late fitness test, as will defender James O'Connor. James Coppinger looks set to start the game in Heffernan's place, with Lewis Guy and James Hayter being the front two this evening. Oldham will be without defender Ryan Bertrand, who is on loan from Chelsea, as his parent club will not allow him to become cup-tied. They will also be without defenders Sean Gregan and John Thompson, striker Andy Liddell and goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi for tonight's game. Oldham boss John Sheridan said: "It will be a very difficult game as Doncaster are doing very well at the moment. They will believe they've got a second chance because the game should have been over first time around and we should have already been through the tie." " We won't be sitting back -- no way," he said. "I always go to try and win the game no matter who we're playing, and we've proved on our travels that we can do that. We've created lots of opportunities, so let's hope we can put one or two away. Doncaster are a good footballing side with some excellent players, so we need to keep it nice and bright and not fall asleep. But we've played them a few times now and know their strengths and weaknesses, so hopefully we can deal with that and I definitely think we can win the game." |

The
presence of Rovers keeper Ben Smith, who was making his debut, helped
Lincoln City to win their first game in the last sixteen matches on Saturday,
with a 2-1 victory over Notts County. The win took Lincoln off the bottom
of League Two. In the Blue Square National, former Rovers striker Jon-Paul Pittman opened the scoring for Crawley Town from the penalty spot as his side beat Farsley Celtic 4-1 on Saturday. The Championship match at Glanford Park saw the scourge of Rovers, Dean Windass, net two against Scunthorpe, but Jonathan Forte, on loan at Rovers from Sheffield United last season, pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time for Scunthorpe. North of the border, ex-Rovers striker Dene Shields scored twice as Ross County thrashed East of Scotland side Whitehill Welfare in the third round of the Scottish Cup.Also in the cup, Colin Cramb scored for Stirling Albion as they crushed Stranraer 6-0. Dropping down into the UniBond League Division One (South), Robert Betts has been appointed as caretaker manager at Quorn - his side won 2-0 at Gresley Rovers on Saturday. Betts played for Rovers in the 1997/98 season before controversially moving to Coventry City on Rovers' relegation. Doncaster
Rovers defender Sam Hird has moved to Grimsby Town on a one month loan,
with Mariners boss Alan Buckley looking to strengthen his side which is
struggling at the wrong end of the League Two table. The 20-year old has
made eight appearences for Rovers, although seven of those were as substitute.
He moved to Rovers from Leeds United in the summer, but has not managed
to force his way past the first choice partnership of Matthew Mills and
Adam Lockwood. |

Former

by scoring for the Scotland Under-21 side at the weekend in their 4-0
win over Slovenia. The Scots were then hit by five withdrawals from their "B" international squad for Tuesday's home game against the Republic of Ireland, with McCormack being one of the players called up as replacements. He came on midway through the second half as a substitute in the 1-1 draw. |

Vanuatu. Mulligan, introduced as a second half substitute, scored deep

Nicol's
men defeated again |
![]() |
History repeated itself yesterday when Steve Nicol's New England Revolution were defeated 2-1 by Houston Dynamo in the final of the MLS Cup played at the RFK Stadium in Washington DC. Like last year, Revolution took a first half lead, only for two goals to be scored in the second half, meaning that Houston are the first team to register back-to-back victories in the MLS Cup. It was more heartbreak for Nicol's team, who have now played in four MLS Cup finals in the last five years, but are yet to finish as victors. Only DC United and Los Angeles Galaxy have more MLS Trophy wins. |

Ex-Rovers
striker Adebayo Akinfenwa signed for League One strugglers Millwal last
week, being reunited with former Swansea boss Kenny Jackett. Akinfenwa
had been training with Yeovil Town as he recovered from a broken leg he
suffered whilst playing for Swansea last season, but has only been given
a month-to-month contract so taht he can prove his fitness. Jackett said: "Adebayo's a player I know well from Swansea so I know what he's about. He's fully recovered from injury - he's fit and raring to go. Adebayo was really keen to come here and although he's signed initially on a month-to-month contract I am certain he'll prove himself worthy of a longer deal." Akinfenwa rejected a contract offered by Rovers at the end of the 2004/05 season, saying that he wanted to play for a club closer to London. Since then he has played for those well-known London clubs, Torquay United and Swansea City! |

They
started the game side by side in the League One table, and they ended
the day just the same, as the two sides fought out a goalless draw, with
scoring opportunities at a premium. It took Rovers until the 90th minute
to force the Tranmere keeper into his first save of the match, although
Lewis Guy had flashed a great shot across the face of the visitors' goal
in the first half. Tranmere had clearly done their homework on Rovers
and rarely looked to be in serious trouble, despite being reduced to ten
men when left back Tremarco was shown a straight red card for a late challenge
on Paul Heffernan. |

Former
Doncaster Rovers striker Justin Jackson has signed for Southern Premier
League strugglers Corby Town after playing for Brackley following his
return to England after a period playing in Australia. Jackson, who remains
as Rushden & Diamonds' record signing at £175,000, is considered
to be a significant signing who is hoped to score the goals to pull Corby
away from the bottom of the division. Boss Kevin Wilson said: "We have been creating a lot of chances. But we need better finishing and more belief in front of goal. Steve Diggin and Darren Lynch will score goals as well so I've got no real worries about our strike-force and we won't press the panic button. Bringing in Jackson is all about putting people under pressure up front." |

Rovers are set to make a number of changes from the side that went out
of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday, which saw a number of players
missing after picking up knocks in last Saturday's FA Cup game at Oldham

Paul Heffernan and Lewis Guy will be hoping to keep their places in the

off last weekend against Chesterfield. Ben Chorley (calf) and Steve Davis (knee) will also be absent, with Carl Tremarco (stomach) and Chris Shuker (thigh) also doubtful. John Mullin was due to return for the reserves during the weeka fter recovering from a back problem and, if he has no adverse reaction after the gam, will be included in the squad today. Tranmere are boosted after receiving permission to play skipper Ian Goodison this afternoon ahead of jetting off to the Caribbean after the game to play for Jamaica next week. The 34-year old ahs been recalled to the Jamaica squad by new coach Theodore Whitmore, his former Tranmere team-mate. Tranmere boss, Ronnie Moore, said: "We know it will be a tough game. 2 Rovers 2 (Grimsby win 5-4 on penalties) |

Doncaster
Rovers went out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in dramatic and controversial
fashion last night on a wet and windswept night at Blundell Park. After
coming from behind on two occasions, Lewis Guy and Paul Heffernan scoring
the Rovers goals, Paul Green missed the first penalty of the shoot-out
for Rovers. All of the remaining penalties were scored - but Grimsby appeared
to have dashed their chances of victory when Ben Smith saved their final
spot kick. However, the referee intervened and ruled that the kick had
to be taken again - Paul Bolland made no mistake with the second attempt
to give Grimsby victory. Rovers were backed by a magnificent support of
over 2,000 - they actually outnumbered the home support, which is some
achievement. Rovers made a number of changes after some of the more regular selections picked up injuries in Saturday's FA Cup game at Oldham, giving the likes of Mark McCammon and Paul Heffernan the opportunity to have their first match after injury absences. The "Man of the Match" voting has now closed; the result will be announed on Saturday morning. |

Doncaster
Rovers look set to make several changes for this evening's Johnstone's
Paint Trophy match at Grimsby Town, with a number of players doubtful
due to injury. Gareth Roberts will miss the game due to a groin injury,
with Brian Stock (back) and James Coppinger (calf) are doubtful. Jason
Price is also rated as doubtful for the game. With managers having to
name a side containing the majority of the regular starting line-up, Sean
O'Driscoll may have limited options should the above all be ruled out
tonight. Grimsby have doubts over Paul Bolland and Danny Boshell. Both of them picked up knocks in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Carlisle which forced their substitution towards the end of the game. Isaiah Rankin, who missed the Carlisle game on Saturday, is again likely to be missing tonight. On-loan striker Martin Butler is cup-tied for the match and defender Tom Newey is suspended and may be replaced by Justin Whittle, who is recovering from a back strain. Goals
review |
![]() |
This
week's review of former Doncaster Rovers players scoring goals begins
in the FA Cup First Round. Leo Fortune-West scored the winning goal five minutes from time for Cambridge as they defeated Aldershot 2-1. Jack Lester opened the scoring for Chesterfield in the 29th minute of their game against Tranmere - but the Sprieites eventually went down 2-1. Gregg Blundell scored in the 8th minute of Darlington's home tie against Northampton - the match finished in a 1-1 draw, with boss Dave Penney complaining about the use of Umbro footballs in the FA Cup instead of the Mitre ones used in League matches. Neil Roberts scored for Wrexham in the 66th minute, but the struggling League Two club went down to a heavy 4-1 defeat at Peterborough. Midfielder John McGrath scored twice for Burton Albion in their 4-0 away win at Halifax Town - the Shaymen's cause was not helped when Anthony Griffith - on loan from Rovers - was sent off for a foul on Shaun Harrad in the 25th minute, his third red card of the season. In Sunday's FA Cup match, Richie Barker scored twice as Hartlepool United comfortably dumped Gainsborough Trinity out of the competition by a 6-0 victory margin - putting paid to Trinity's hopes of reaching the second round for the first time since 1939. Elsewhere, in the Conference North, Mark Hume scored in the third minute for Harrogate Town, but they still lost 2-1 at Burscough. The final part of the review comes from Scotland, where the goal machine called Richard Offiong scored again as Hamilton won 2-0 at home against Partick Thistle. Colin Cramb scored for Stirling Albion in their match at Livingston, but Albion went down to a 4-3 defeat, which leaves them hovering dangerously near the relegation places at the bottom of Division One. Finally, Dene Shields made a dramatic entrance from the subsitutes' bench, scoring the only goal of what seemed to be heading for a dour goalless draw at Airdrie to give Ross County the three points to maintain a four point lead at the top of Division Two. |

Cardiff
in for Offiong? |
![]() |
There
are reports that struggling Championship side Cardiff City are chasing
Hamilton's former Rovers striker Richard Offiong to help get their season
back on track. They are reported to have the edge on Hearts for his signature,
as the player is supposedly wanting a move south. Reports also suggest that Yeovil are about to make ex-Rovers striker Adebayo Akinfenwa a contract offer, but they also face competition from Scunthorpe, Gillingham and Leyton Orient - alhthough his decision may still depend on his far from London he thinks each of these options is! |

Goals
elsewhere |

Former
Rovers players amongst the goalscorers yesterday were a bit thin on the
ground. Anthony Griffith, on loan for the season at Halifax scored the
Shaymens third goal in the 3-0 win over Crawley. Nick Fenton did what
all former Rovers players should do, when they get the chance. He scored
for Grimsby at Millmoor against Rotehrham. The afternoon didn't go according
to plan for Fenton though as he was sent off and Rotherham ended victorious. |

Doncaster
Rovers are likely to be unchanged for this afternoon's game at Swindon
Town, although reports earlier in the week suggested that Sean McDaid
may have taken a knock in last week's game against Leyton Orient, which
could give James Coppinger the chance to make a return. Coppinger has
missed the last couple of matches due a virus, but returned to training
during the week and took part in the practice match against Crewe on Tuesday.
Jason Price may have returned to form last Sunday, but it is likely that
he will again have to settle for a place on the bench today. Swindon goalkeeper Phil Smith and defender Jerel Ifil face late fitness tests ahead of the game. Smith has been suffering with a groin injury lately, and Ifil limped off during last weekend's defeat by Port Vale. |

Griffith
makes Shaymen return |

Anthony
Griffith, on loan at Halifax Town for this season, makes a return to the
Halifax side this afternoon for their game against Crawley after completing
a four match suspension after being sent off against Kidderminster. Boss Chris Wilder is looking forward to Griffith teaming up with skipper Tom Kearney in the Halifax midfield. "They have done well as a pair and will be back together tomorrow. Anthony's an honest boy and has not enjoyed being out of the team, but he has worked hard in training. It was his own fault that he missed games, but it is good to have him back." |
