Millwall
fans arrested |
| |
Nine
Millwall fans have been arrested in London in connection with an outbreak
of hooliganism at the Keepmoat Stadium at the beginning of the season.
"Operation Adroit" is the police investigation into the incident
on 11th August, when a number of Millwall supporters broke through the
segregation area in the North Stand and headed towards the home fans in
the West Stand. Additional police officers were called into the gorund,
with batons and PAVA spray used to restore order. Police from Doncaster have been working with colleagues at Lewisham police station to identify possible offenders, and officers from Doncaster travelled to Lewisham police station on 21st and 22nd November to arrest and interview nine Millwall supporters for offences of violent disorder. Seven were men between the ages of 18 and 33 from South London, one a 20-year old man from West London, and one a female in her early 20's. All nine have been bailed to reappear at Lewisham Police Station in January. A further seven people are being sought by police in connection with the incident and their photos will shortly be released to media in the Lewisham area. |

Rovers
celebrate anniversary |
![]() |
Doncaster
Rovers, Australian style, have celebrated their 40th anniverary recently
- and with 40 junior teams, they are now one of the largest football clubs
in the state of Victoria. Founded in 1967, they have had to contend with
three devastating fires during their history. Their name is apparently due to being named after the founders' dog - sadly, the fame of our Doncaster Rovers does not seem to have spread to them. |

Rovers
1 Oldham 2 |
![]() |
After
a first half showing that promised much, Rovers had to settle for going
in at the break all square after Oldham equalised on the stroke of half
time. Rovers had gone in front with a goal by Mark McCammon, who side-footed
the ball home whilst totally unmarked eight yards from goal - and thought
he had scored a second with a great header barely two minutes later -
but it was disallowed, we can onlyguess at an off-side decision as play
recommenced amidst confusion from the Rovers fans. Oldham's second goal
came early in the second half, with Adam Lockwood slipping at a crucial
moment, leaving Gary McDonald a clear shot on goal. Sadly, Rovers then
threatened very little as Oldham gained in confidence, with the away keeper
rarely being troubled in the remainder of the game. So Rovers are out of the FA Cup and without a game on Saturday, hopefully leaving plenty of time for preparation for the home game against Brighton next Tuesday. The "Man of the match" voting has now closed. The result will be announced on Saturday afternoon. |

Rovers
v Oldham |
| |
Doncaster
Rovers face Oldham Athletic this evening for the third time this season
in the FA Cup first round replay, with the winners due to be at home to
Crewe Alexandra in the second round on Saturday. Rovers will be without Paul Heffernan, who injured his ankle against Port Vale, and is due to have an MRI scan on the injury tomorrow. Mark Wilson, who was also substituted due to injury on Saturday, is rated as doubtful and will have a late fitness test, as will defender James O'Connor. James Coppinger looks set to start the game in Heffernan's place, with Lewis Guy and James Hayter being the front two this evening. Oldham will be without defender Ryan Bertrand, who is on loan from Chelsea, as his parent club will not allow him to become cup-tied. They will also be without defenders Sean Gregan and John Thompson, striker Andy Liddell and goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi for tonight's game. Oldham boss John Sheridan said: "It will be a very difficult game as Doncaster are doing very well at the moment. They will believe they've got a second chance because the game should have been over first time around and we should have already been through the tie." " We won't be sitting back -- no way," he said. "I always go to try and win the game no matter who we're playing, and we've proved on our travels that we can do that. We've created lots of opportunities, so let's hope we can put one or two away. Doncaster are a good footballing side with some excellent players, so we need to keep it nice and bright and not fall asleep. But we've played them a few times now and know their strengths and weaknesses, so hopefully we can deal with that and I definitely think we can win the game." |

is not a break, but the ankle is swollen, so he will not be fit to play
tomorrow evening. The ankle is strapped up and Paul is to have an MRI
scan on Wednesday, after which the extent of the injury wil be better
known. Also missing tomorrow will be Gareth Roberts, although he has started in light training after his hernia operation. James O'Connor and Mark Wilson are also rated as doubtful for the Oldham game. |

Weekend
review |
![]() |
The
presence of Rovers keeper Ben Smith, who was making his debut, helped
Lincoln City to win their first game in the last sixteen matches on Saturday,
with a 2-1 victory over Notts County. The win took Lincoln off the bottom
of League Two. In the Blue Square National, former Rovers striker Jon-Paul Pittman opened the scoring for Crawley Town from the penalty spot as his side beat Farsley Celtic 4-1 on Saturday. The Championship match at Glanford Park saw the scourge of Rovers, Dean Windass, net two against Scunthorpe, but Jonathan Forte, on loan at Rovers from Sheffield United last season, pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time for Scunthorpe. North of the border, ex-Rovers striker Dene Shields scored twice as Ross County thrashed East of Scotland side Whitehill Welfare in the third round of the Scottish Cup.Also in the cup, Colin Cramb scored for Stirling Albion as they crushed Stranraer 6-0. Dropping down into the UniBond League Division One (South), Robert Betts has been appointed as caretaker manager at Quorn - his side won 2-0 at Gresley Rovers on Saturday. Betts played for Rovers in the 1997/98 season before controversially moving to Coventry City on Rovers' relegation. Finally, ex-Rovers striker Robert Gill scored his second goal in three games for Waikato in New Zealand in their 1-1 draw against Canterbury United. |

Port
Vale v Rovers |
![]() |
Doncaster Rovers finished the day in the play-off places for the first
time this season, as their recent form saw the unbeaten league form stretch
to eight games. They had to come from behind today though, when George
Pilkington took advantage of some hesitancy in the Rovers defence to open
the scoring. As has happened on a number of occasions this season, it
was a vastly improved performance in the second half as Rovers fired three
goals past a Port Vale defence, with Lewis Guy, James Hayter and Richie
Wellens scoring to give Rovers the three points. |

Vale v Rovers |

The
injury to Matthew Mills means that Rovers will be forced to make at least
one change to the starting side for this afternoon's away game at Port
Vale, with Gordon Greer likely to join Adam Lockwood in central defence
this afternoon. Gareth Roberts remains absent after a hernia operation,
meaning that Sean McDaid will continue at left back, but Rovers are boosted
by the availability of Paul Heffernan and Mark McCammon. Port Vale will probably include new on-loan signing Mark Salmon in their side today, but midfielder Robin Hulbert and defender Richard Walker are both out due to injury. Vale will also have to do without Shane Tudor, who moved to Shrewsbury Town on loan this week. |

Rovers
- no loan signings |

Doncaster
Rovers will have to go through until the New Year without any additions
to their squad, with Thursday's loan deadline passing without any new
faces being seen arriving at the club. Ben Smith and Sam Hird have moved
out on loans to Lincoln and Grimsby respectively, but Sean O'Driscoll
has not brought anyone in to replace them. He said: "We spoke to one or two clubs and one or two players about trying to bring somebody in,but everybody wants to keep their best players as you can imagine and I am not interested in bringing people in just to make up the numbers. In any case we have preached all along that we have a strong squad and that people will get their chance if we have make changes due to injuries or suspension and that will come to fruition now." |

residents for views on how the former Rovers ground, Belle Vue, should

men defeated again |

History repeated itself yesterday when Steve Nicol's New England Revolution were defeated 2-1 by Houston Dynamo in the final of the MLS Cup played at the RFK Stadium in Washington DC. Like last year, Revolution took a first half lead, only for two goals to be scored in the second half, meaning that Houston are the first team to register back-to-back victories in the MLS Cup. It was more heartbreak for Nicol's team, who have now played in four MLS Cup finals in the last five years, but are yet to finish as victors. Only DC United and Los Angeles Galaxy have more MLS Trophy wins. |

Ex-Rovers
striker Adebayo Akinfenwa signed for League One strugglers Millwal last
week, being reunited with former Swansea boss Kenny Jackett. Akinfenwa
had been training with Yeovil Town as he recovered from a broken leg he
suffered whilst playing for Swansea last season, but has only been given
a month-to-month contract so taht he can prove his fitness. Jackett said: "Adebayo's a player I know well from Swansea so I know what he's about. He's fully recovered from injury - he's fit and raring to go. Adebayo was really keen to come here and although he's signed initially on a month-to-month contract I am certain he'll prove himself worthy of a longer deal." Akinfenwa rejected a contract offered by Rovers at the end of the 2004/05 season, saying that he wanted to play for a club closer to London. Since then he has played for those well-known London clubs, Torquay United and Swansea City! |

to force the Tranmere keeper into his first save of the match, although
Lewis Guy had flashed a great shot across the face of the visitors' goal
in the first half. Tranmere had clearly done their homework on Rovers
and rarely looked to be in serious trouble, despite being reduced to ten
men when left back Tremarco was shown a straight red card for a late challenge
