Rotherham United 0 Rovers Youth 2
The Rovers youth team kept their good early season form going on Saturday when they comfortably beat their counterparts from Rotherham United in a match played at Rotherham's training ground at Hooton Roberts. Rovers went in front in the 12th minute when a deflected shot by Lodge looped over the Rotherham goalkeeper into the net. Rotherham were limited to having shots from long range, with Rovers comfortably dealing with any anything the home team tried.
Rovers doubled the lead in the closing moments of the game when Wade Fairhurst latched onto the ball, took it into the penalty area before firing a shot past the oncoming goalkeeper to give Rovers a thoroughly deserved victory.
Rovers: Aaron Pratt, Andrew Hawksworth, Andrew Boyce, Luke Duffy, Danny Bowland, Robbie Clark, Robbie Hall, Charles Fisher, Alex Henderson, Jordan Lodge, Wade Fairhurst
Substitutes: Jason Hardy (for Duffy, 57), Scott Bibby (for Lodge, 84), Joe Conkleton, Valentino Shielis

Blundell on target
Ex-Rovers striker Gregg Blundell fired home Darlington's third goal in their 4-0 home victory over Stockport County yesterday afternoon. The win takes Dave Penney's men up to second place in the talble, three points behind leaders Milton Keynes Dons. Blundell had been dropped to the bench yesterday, with Matt Green, who had impressed in the Quakers' match against Leeds in midweek, starting the match in his place. however, Blundell had only just come on to the pitch when he scored, just nine minutes from the end of the game.

Rovers v Huddersfield Town
Doncaster Rovers look likely to be boosted by the return of Paul Heffernan for this afternoon's home game against Huddersfield Town. Rovers report that Heffernan has resumed training after being forced off at half time of the home game against Walsall with groin strain. Hopes that midfielder Martin Woods would return seem to now be in the balance after he had returned to training just over a week ago.
Also available for selection are defenders Gordon Greer and Matt Noble, who could play with casts on their wrists - Gareth Roberts faces a late test on his groin injury.
Definitely missing on Sunday will be Lewis Guy (suspended), Mark McCammon (hamstring), Kevin Horlock (shoulder), Steve Roberts (ankle) and Graeme Lee (knee).
Returning to the Keepmoat Stadium with Huddersfield Town will be Danny Cadamarteri, who is eligible after serving a suspension, Chris Brandon, who has recovered from an ankle injury, and James Berrett, who is fit after his hamstring injury.
Definitely missing will be Lucas Atkins, Tom Clarke, Simon Eastwood, Luke Malcher, Jon Worthington and Robbie Williams.
The match is being televised 'live' on Sky Sports, and has a 4pm kick-off.

Rovers 2 Huddersfield Town 0
A goal in each half earned Rovers a thoroughly deserved three points against a rather disappointing Huddersfield Town side that must still have been suffering from the after effects of last week's defeat against Walsall. The first goal was a superb shot by Brian Stock from 20 yards - the keeper got a hand to the ball but couldn't prevent the ball going into the net. The second came from Mark Wilson, a shot placed just out of the reach of the Huddersfield keeper, and whilst it lacked real power, the ball went past an outstretched hand into the net.
Huddersfield rarely threatened Neil Sullivan - a superb tip over by the Rovers keeper midway through the second half being about the only time he was troubled with a shot on target.
The win takes Rovers up to 13th place - their highest position of the season, and just four points away from the play-off places.
The "Man of the match" voting has now closed. Thanks to everyone who has taken part - the result will be announced on Wednesday morning.

Goals review

We begin the review of former Rovers players scoring goals this weekend in League One, where Sean Thornton scored in the 9th minute against in-form Leeds United. However, Thornton was sent off for violent conduct in the 32nd minute, meaning that he will be suspended for Leyton Orient's trip to the Keepmoat Stadium in a fortnight's time. The match against Leeds ended in a 1-1- draw.
In League Two, Dave Morley scored one of two goals scored by Macclesfield in stoppage time at the end of the game - consigning opponents Wrexham to a 3-2 defeat.
Also in League Two, Jack Lester scored a winning goal from the penalty spot for Chesterfield as they won at Shrewsbury 3-2.
Finally, Neil Grayson scored the equaliser for Stafford Rangers in their 1-1 draw against Cambridge United in the Blue Square Premier League.

Smith set for loan move
Young Rovers goalkeeper looks set to go out on loan in the near future, with first team prospects limited by the form of first choice keeper Neil Sullivan. Smith, who played 23 first team games this season, has been restricted to 45 minutes of first team action so far this term - in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round tie against Bradford City.
With Rovers electing not to enter a team in the reserve team league this term, the option of sending Smith out on loan is seen as important in his development as a player.
Smith commented: “I am still learning from Neil and coach Barry Richardson, but at the moment I am working hard all week and sometimes there is nothing at the end of it because the gaffer decides against picking a replacement keeper on the bench.Obviously from my point of view that is disappointing but that is how it goes and it is down to him. It just makes the mental side of my game a lot harder. It doesn’t help that we haven’t got a reserve team this season. The club have tried to arrange some friendly games so I have still been playing some games. But even though I treat the games properly and try my best it is not the same as playing in a match where points are at stake and the result is important. If I am not going to be on the bench then I need to go out on loan and get some games under my belt - and the gaffer knows that - for both my personal development and for the sake of the club."
Ben's view was backed up by Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll: "We have circulated clubs that Ben is available to go out on loan and I would like to get him out playing in the Football League or the Conference. He is only 20 and he needs to progress and it would be a great experience for him to go out somewhere on loan and get a few games under his belt. Because we only have one other keeper we would be able to get him back at 24 hours’ notice.”

Warren assistant at Brigg
Former Doncaster Rovers defender Lee Warren has been appointed as assistant manager at UniBond club Brigg Town. Warren, who had been a player at Brigg before leaving earlier this season, will be assistant to Steve Housham, who steps up to manager after being assistant to Dave McLean, who left a couple of weeks ago after Brigg picked up just four points from their opening eight games.
Warren holds the distinction of being the only player to appear for Rovers in the relegation season of 1997/98 and in the first Conference season - all other players from the relegation season either left at the end of the 97/98 season or were not selected by new manager Ian Snodin.

Rovers v Huddersfield Town
Doncaster Rovers look likely to be boosted by the return of Paul Heffernan for Sunday's home game against Huddersfield Town. Rovers report that Heffernan has resumed training after being forced off at half time of the home game against Walsall with groin strain. Hopes that midfielder Martin Woods would return seem to now be in the balance after he had returned to training just over a week ago.

Fixture alteration
The home game against Swindon Town has been brought forward from Saturday, 12th April to Friday, 11th April, with a 7.45pm kick-off. The date change is due to a race meeting at Doncaster Racecourse on the Saturday.

Ross on target on Scots' victory
Former Rovers striker Ross McCormack put Scotland's under-21's ahead in the 44th minute on Thursday, setting his team on the way to a 3-0 win over Lithuania. McCormack, who now plays for Motherwell, could have had a second goal, but was denied by the woodwork.
The victory was the first in Scotland's European Championship qualifying campaign.
October 11, 2007
Horlock on the way back
Rovers physio John Dickens has confirmed that Kevin Horlock is back in training after recovering from surgery on his shoulder. A return to playing is not imminent though - he has to go through a period of strengthening the shoulder joint before a return to playing is possible.
Graeme Lee has had surgery on his knee, but will have at least three months recovery before he has a chance of returning to action.
Steve Roberts is doubtful for Sunday's match after picking up an ankle injury in the game at Luton last weekend, whilst Paul Heffernan and Gareth Roberts are rated at no more than 50/50 prospects for the Huddersfield game.
Better news comes with Martin Woods having returned to full training last week - he will be available for selection this weekend.
October 10, 2007
Hayter - "got to find consistency"
Rovers striker James Hayter has put Rovers' failure to challenge at the top of League One so far on a long list of injuries, and believes that once Sean O'Driscoll can name a settled side, Rovers will start to climb the table.
He said: "I think we've got to find consistency, which is the main thing in this league. If you do that then we'll push up the table and be where we want to be. I don't think the injuries have helped us. We've not got a settled side as yet. It's disappointing times when you have a few injuries, but if we can keep a settled team, get the consistency, then that's when we can push on."
October 10, 2007
Paterson comes back
Former Rovers winger Jamie Paterson has signed for Southern Premier League club Corby Town after returning from playing in Australia.. Paterson's arrival at Corby increases the Kettering Town connection at the club - he links up with boss Kevin Wilson and Craig McIlwain. Jamie made his Corby debut in last week's Northants FA Hillier Senior Cup defeat at Rushden & Diamonds.

Griffith off as Shaymen go down

Anthony Griffith, on loan at Halifax Town from Rovers for the remainder of the season, was booked in the 12th minute of last night's game at Kidderminster Harriers for a bad tackle on Kidderminster's Dean Bennett - and was then sent off a minute later for dissent.
Halifax lost the match 1-0, but had to wait until the 71st minute for the only goal of the game - that came from an own-goal from defender Cortez Belle, who headed into his own net following sustained pressure by the Harriers.

Ryan backs Rovers boss
Following Saturday's 1-1 draw at Luton, Rovers' chairman John Ryan gave his backing to Sean O'Driscoll following Rovers' indifferent start to the season.
Following Saturday's game, he said "Sean is doing his level best and working hard and I'm sure he can take the team forward."
Rovers are currently lying 16th in the table, averaging just over a point a game ahead of Sunday's televised home game against Huddersfield Town.

1 James Coppinger (23.81%)

Wright signs for Robins, but may go Down Under
Full back Alan Wright, who played for Rovers on loan last season, has signed for League One club Cheltenham Town on non-contract terms after being released by Sheffield United following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest. He could be limited in any further move due to complex FIFA transfer regulations, which limit each player to being registered with three clubs, and appearing for only two, in a twelve month period between July 1st and the following June 30th..
The move to Cheltenham comes as somewhat of a surprise, as he had been expected to fly to Australia for a week-long trial with Sydney, having been tipped to sign a season-long contract for the injured American midfielder Mickey Enfield.
The move to Sydney is still possible after signing up at Cheltenham on a game-by-game basis
Cheltenham's caretaker manager, Keith Downing, said: "Alan is a very good player and his career record speaks for itself. He will bring quality and experience to the team and I have received good reports on his character that suggest he will fit in with the way we do things. Alan has been training with Sheffield United and has kept himself very fit. He just wants to play some football now so it's a good move for all concerned."
On the plans for Wright to play abroad, Downing said: "Alan has signed non-contract because he wants to keep his options open. He is considering an offer to play abroad but at the moment we are helping each other out and we'll see where we get to in a couple of weeks."

Sarge wins two months in a row
Former Rovers defender Mark Albrighton has been named as the Cambridge United's "Player of the Month" for the second month in a row by the Cambridge Evening News. The award is given based on supporters' ratings from each game and makes Mark the first Cambridge player to win the award two months in a row since Michael Morrison did so in December 2005/January 2006.
Albrighton missed Saturday's match against Halifax after being booked for the fifth time in the season the week before against Forest Green Rovers.
October 8, 2007
Caudwell the Gladiator
Ex-Rovers winger Matt Caudwell has left Worksop Town for a second time and has joined UniBond Premier Division rivals Matlock Town after receiving "an offer that was difficult for him to refuse".
Caudwell returned to Worksop in June after three years at Gainsborough Trinity, who he joined following his first spell at Sandy Lane.

Luton 1 Rovers 1
Rovers picked up a point this afternoon - but it could have been more, with the woodwork saving the home side on two occasions in the first half. Rovers went in front in the 26th minute when James Hayter headed home a James Coppinger cross - and with the further chances for Rovers, Luton were booed off at half time.
The home side improved somewhat after the break, but it took them until the 57th minute for them to equalise, with Paul Furlong scoring with a diving header.

Goals review
We begin our look at former Doncaster Rovers players scoring goals this weekend in Scotland's Second Division, where Dene Shields scored Ross County's winning goal in their 2-1 win over Brechin. Ross remain on top of the table, albeit only on goal difference, despite having parted company with manager Dick Campbell in controversial circumstances last week.
In England, Michael McIndoe scored Bristol City's second goal in their 2-0 home win over Sheffield United. Ex-Rovers loan strikerRichie Barker scored an equaliser for Hartlepool in their game at Nottingham Forest, but Forest went on to win 2-1, with Kris Commons scoring the winner.
On Friday evening, Wrexham won 2-1 to lift them out of the League Twon relegation places, thanks to two goals from ex-Rovers skipper Neil Roberts.
At the top of League Two, Darlington registered a healthy 3-0 away win at Dagenham & Redbridge, with Steve Foster and Gregg Blundell scoring for the Quakers, who are now in third place in the table. Former youth team striekr Michael Rankine scored Rushden & Diamonds' winner as they won 2-1 at Altrincham in the Blue Square National.

Player arrested in broken jaw incident

Former Charlton player Jamie Stuart has been arrested on suspicion of breaking ex-Rovers striker Chris Beardsley's jaw whilst he was playing for York City on September 22nd. Stuart was arrested and released on police bail until December 7th, with the police asking for anyone who attended the match to contact them.
A similar incident last season by Barrow's James Cotterill resulted in Cotterill being sent to prison.

Sam extends O's stay
Former Rovers loan defender Sam Oji has had his loan at Leyton Orient extended until the end of November. Oji has been on loan from Birmingham City since the end of August, although he has only made three appearances since then. The loan extension does include an agreement that he can play in FA Cup matches for the O's.
"I'm pleased that we've been able to extend Sam's loan because he adds to our defensive options," Orient manager Martin Ling said. "He didn't get a huge number of playing minutes last month, but will get his chance during his time here and will continue to be an important part of our squad."

Hayward in Frickley move
Following the departure of Billy Heath as manager from Frickley Athletic, new boss Mark Hancock has appointed former Rovers loan striker Andy Hayward as his player/assistant manager.
This is Hayward's third time at the club, having previously been at the club in 1993/94, and again in 1999/2000, with his clubs also including Bradford Park Avenue, Hednesford Town, Barrow, Stalybridge Celtic and Ossett Town.
October 5, 2007
Luton v Rovers
Doncaster Rovers look likely to be without their strikeforce from the last game for tomorrow's visit to Luton Town - Lewis Guy is suspenced for two matches following his red card against Walsall, and Paul Heffernan has a groin injury which forced his substitution at half time on Tuesday.
Also missing will be Graeme Lee (knee), Gordon Greer (wrist), Martin Woods and Mark McCammon (hamstrong), Gareth Roberts (groin) and Kevin Horlock (shoulder).
Jason Price and Craig Nelthorpe are travelling with the squad and are likely to be included in the squad.
Luton will give a late fitness test to midfielder David Bell, who has an ankle injury, but striker Paul Furlong is available after suspsension. Definitely missing will be Keith Keane (leg), Paul Peschisolido (ankle) and Paul Underwood (blood infection).

Last night's matches
Ex-Rovers striker Richie Barker scored for Hartlepool United last night in their home game against Carlisle United. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, which keeps Hartlepool in the top six.
Huddersfield Town ended their match against Nottingham Forest in a 1-1 draw, with Danny Cadamarteri scoring the opening game in the 67th minute, with Forest equalising eight minutes later. Cadamarteri, who had been booked in the 7th minute of the game, jumped into the crowd to celebrate his goal and was promptly shown his second yellow card by referee Nigel Miller.
Finally, a brace from Jack Lester saw Chesterfield on the way to a 4-0 win at troubled Wrexham, who find themselves next to the bottom of the League Two table, with just Mansfield below them.

Len Graham

We have to report the sad news that Len Graham, who played 332 matches for Rovers during an eight year period in the 1950's, died on Sunday at the age of 82. Graham, who was a full Northern Ireland international during his time at the club, was one of the best left-backs in the country and was a key part of the Rovers during their Second Division seasons,
After eight seasons at Rovers, he moved on to Torquay before retiring, becoming a coach at Stoke City and Blackpool before retiring from football in 1975.
We wish to pass on our condolences to his family at this sad time.

Stolen season tickets
It has been reported that a number of Doncaster Rovers season tickets were stolen whilst Rovers played Cheltenham Town on Saturday. Rovers and the Keepmoat Stadium have a record of every season ticket that was stolen, and if anyone tries to gain access to the ground using one of these tickets, they will be arrested and prosecuted. Please do not buy any season tickets that may be offered to you, as it is likely that they will be amongst those stolen. If anyone has any information relating to the theft, please contact South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2 20 20 20.

Rovers 2 Walsall 3
Doncaster Rovers went down to a disappointing home defeat against Walsall in a match that they ought to have won. They went in front twice - Mills headed home from a corner in the 18th minute, and shortly before half time, a good finish from Lewis Guy put Rovers 2-1 in front. The second half was bizarre. A combination of unfathomable refereeing decisions, combined with what must have been an inspired half time team talk by Walsall's manager undid Rovers - with the home side rarely threatening and being continually forced onto the backfoot by the visitors. To cap a thoroughly miserable evening, James Coppinger fired a penalty wide of the target, then Lewis Guy was sent off on the stroke of the 90th minute, presumably for "foul and absusive language".
The "Man of the match" voting is now open. If you would like to take part, please click on the logo to the left.

Lewis tops the vote
Lewis Guy came home as the comfortable winner of the "Man of the Match" voting for Saturday's home game against Cheltenham Town, with probably the largest winning margin seen in the history of the poll. Ten players received nominations - but Lewis won more than four out of every five votes - and that was after discounting a few attempts of mutliple voting.
The players to receive the most votes were as follows:
1 Lewis Guy (80.65%)
2 Brian Stock (8.60%)
3 Matthew Mills (3.23%)
Thank you to everyone who took part. The next vote will open following this evening's home game against Walsall.
October 2, 2007
Rovers v Walsall
Gareth Roberts will miss this evening's game against Walsall after being forced off at half time with a groin injury. Sean McDaid will continue in the side at left back. All others in the team came through Saturday's game without any problems, so we expect that, apart from Roberts, the squad will be the same for this evening's game. Longer term injury victims Kevin Horlock and Graeme Lee continue to be absent, as are Gordon Greer and Matt Noble, both of who have broken wrists. Martin Woods and Mark McCammon missed Saturday's game with hamstring injuries, and are likely to miss out again today.
Walsall are likely to be unchanged after Saturday's win which took them off the bottom of the League One table, with Ian Roper again missing out due to a viral infection.

Bayo continues recovery at Glovers
Former Rover Adebayo Akinfenwa is one of two injured strikers to be training at Yeovil Town as they recover from injuries. Akinfenwa has been training at Yeovil since August as he continues to recover from a broken leg he sustained whilst playing for Swansea City. He is joined by former Sunderland and Grimsby striker Michael Reddy, who is currently recovering from a hip operation. The former Irish U21 international was released by Grimsby in the summer. Akinfenwa turned down a short-term deal at Swansea, only to see a prospective move to Cheltenham Town fall through due to concerns about his fitness.

Wheater moves forward
David Wheater, who played for Rovers on loan from Middlesbrough, played as a make-shift centre forward for the latter part of their game against Everton on Saturday due to a combination of an injury crisis and the remaining forwards being ineffective against the Everton defence. Wheater got his chance up front when boss Gareth Southgate substituted both of his strikers in the second half, pushing Wheater forward to trouble the Everton defence with his height. The ploy didn't work though. Middlebrough lost 2-0.
