Web site logo

The draw, which was made yesterday afternoon at Wembley, means that Rovers have to travel to London for the fixture against their League One opponents on the weekend of Saturday 2nd January/Sunday 3rd January. Brenford are currently just above the League One relegation spots, having 19 ponts from 18 games, and lie in 18th place in the table.
Whilst the overall record against Brentford is fairly even, Rovers having won 18 to Brentford's 17, Rovers are undefeated in the last six encounters against the Bees.

O'Driscoll - ref used 'sledgehammer to crack a nut'
Web site logo
In his post-match press interview, Sean O'Driscoll gave an indication as to the circumstances that led to assistant Richard O'Kelly being sent to the stands from the technical area during the first half of Saturday's game at Nottingham Forest.
O'Driscoll said: "We just thought that Simon Gillett had blocked the first shot and felt that he got pushed in the back as he chased for the ball. The linesman obviously didn't think that. Richard wasn't swearing, he just thought that it was a foul, so, as I have said to the referee, I think that they used a sledgehammer to crack a nut. It wasn't foul or abusive; we just thought it was a foul. The linesman was okay about it, as he told us he thought it was shoulder-to-shoulder, so if you can't have communication, it's pointless. We're not renowned for creating problems on or off the pitch, so I thought it was a poor decision."

Nottingham Forest 4 Rovers 1
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers went down to a heavy defeat at the City Ground this afternoon in an eventful match that saw Richard O'Kelly sent to the stands after Forest controversially took the lead in the 16th minute, when the ball was eventually forced in off Rovers defender Gareth Roberts. Rovers tried to force their way back into the game after half an hour's play, with Copinger, Shiels and Sharp all having chances to score, but they went into the break with just the one goal separating the two sides.
After Rovers spent the first few minutes of the second half on the attack, Forest clawed their way back, scoring their second goal of the afternoon in the 59th minute when Morgan headed home. Forest went 3-0 up in the 77th minute when Earnshaw comfortably slotted the ball home - Rovers then substituted keeper Neil Sullivan with a reported knee injury, with Ben Smith replacing him. Forest's fourth came just three minutes later, with McGugan firing home from a tight angle past Smith.
At least Rovers managed to pull one goal back eight minutes from time when Billy Sharp forced the ball home from close range. Whilst Rovers pushed until the end of the match, no further scoring opportunities arose, and the match ended with a 4-1 home win, with the Rovers' away form this season causing some concern to many supporters.

Goals check
Web site logo
We begin this week's review of ex-Rovers scoring goals in the FA Cup, where Gordon Greer's late header for Swindon was enough to beat a reslient challenge by 10-man Wrexham at the Racecourse.
Also reaching the third round were York City, who beat Cambridge United 2-1, with their first goal coming from former youth striker Michael Rankine.
In the Championship, Paul Green scored Derby County's first goal in their 2-1 home win over Reading.
Dropping down into the UniBond Premier Division, on-loan Andy Campbell scored for the second weekend in a row for Whitby Town, who won 4-0 away at Worksop Town, three of which came after the break. In the same division, Mark Hume scored an 82nd minute goal for Bradford Park Avenue, who won 1-0 at Nantwich Town.
Finally, Tristram Whitman scored twice for Carlton Town in their UniBond Division One (South) match at Brigg Town - Carlton won the game 4-2.

What the managers said
Web site logo
Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll put yesterday's defeat down to a poor second half performance after a first half left him with hope that Rovers could salvage something from the game.
He said: "I thought that half time didn't do us any favours. I thought that we were alright, it was an own goal for the first goal, but I thought that we were fine. We could have done better in the final third, but I thought that our general play was really good. I thought that we were a bit naive in the second half and really played into their hands. We tried to pass the ball from positions where it was going to be very difficult for us to get out. That upset the balance of play and we then got done by another set play. It became really difficult for us at 2-0. We took a chance and sometimes it works for you and sometimes it doesn't. It was disappointing, but I thought that we were our own worst enemies today."
Forest boss Billy Davies was understandably very pleased with the game, especially as it broke Rovers' recent domination of matches between the two sides. He said: "I was obviously concerned before the game, because we had not beaten them in six matches," he said. "They had kept five clean sheets and they looked like a bogey team for us. I said that to the players – that we owed them one because of that previous record."
"I am disappointed with the goal we conceded, because I would have liked to have kept a clean sheet, but in the second half our work rate, attitude and fitness were fantastic. We just had to play a little higher up the pitch and work a little harder off the ball. We moved one or two things around at half time and, work rate wise, it was excellent in the second half. Some of our play and passing is very, very good. We have good players and an attitude that is second to none. Our fitness is first class and that showed in the second half."
Davies continued: "In the first half, I felt we sat off them too much. It could have been a real banana skin for us but second half our fitness, attitude and game was excellent. I think it was important we took the game to them because they are a good side. They keep the ball well, pass it well and have clever players in their side. They showed us that in the first half with their possession."

Byfield praised
Web site logo
Walsall striker Troy Deeney has praised the contribution of former Rovers striker Darren Byfield since his return to the Saddlers in the summer. The two have formed a good partnership this season, which sees Walsall on the fringes of the promotion race.
Deeney told BBC Radio West Midlands: "Me and Daz have struck up a decent partnership at the moment, if I don't score he scores, if he doesn't score I score. It's a good foil - he's 33 but he's still quicker than anyone I know."

Nottingham Forest v Rovers
Web site logo
For a change, it looks as though Sean O'Driscoll may have the situation where he has players returning from injury, rather than losing some from the previous week. Available for selection are Jason Shackell, Byron Webster, Adam Lockwood and Martin Woods. Woods has completed a one match suspension after being sent off at Plymouth, but must be careful over the next few matches as he stands on four bookings, meaning he is just one yellow card away from another ban.
Shackell made a return to action last weekend as a late substitute, with Adam Lockwood and Byron Webster playing in a behind closed doors match against Barnsley on Tuesday to prove their fitness.
Missing the game are just the longer term absentees Steve Brooker, Sean McDaid and Brian Stock, who are all recovering from injury. Additionally, Paul Heffernan misses the match after moving to Oldham Athletic on loan on Thursday.
Billy Sharp and Dean Shiels will be hoping to keep their goal-scoring sequences going - both have scored four goals in the last five matches.
Forest made numerous additions to their squad in the summer, with boss Billy Davies being given substantial funds to tempt players to the City Ground. This week, they signed defender Nicky Shorey on loan from Aston Villa, and he is set to make his Forest debut this afternoon, replacing Chris Cohen, who serves a one match suspension.
Striker Dexter Blackstock could be recalled to the Forest attack after returning to fitnesss following a knee injury.
Missing the game will be Julien Bennett (knee) and Nathan Tyson (calf), but Robert Earnshaw will also be hoping for a recall after scoring last weekend after coming off the bench as he made a comeback from a knee injury.
Rovers will be hoping to have the same success at the City Ground as they had last season, with that result being the catalyst for a surge in form that saw them climb away from the bottom of the table.

Wilson predicts Rovers to stay up
Web site logo
Rovers midfielder Mark Wilson has predicted that the club will still be playing in the Championship next season, with last weekend's victory over Queen's Park Rangers pulling Rovers a little further away from the relegation places.
He told the Doncaster Star: "We had a get-together before (last) Christmas and there wasn't one of us who wanted to be bottom of the league, which we were at the time, and that is the attitude to take. There is massive belief in the dressing room that because of the way that we apply ourselves, that whatever the situation we find ourselves in, we can get out of it."
"We've got a good group of players and a good squad and the attitude among the players is fantastic. As everyone knows, we went on a great run in the second half of the season and we climbed out of the relegation zone and into mid-table. The reason that we were able to do that was because we took it one game at a time and as we started to win games it turned into a run. We are doing exactly the same again so hopefully we can go on another good run. We've got players such as John Oster and James Coppinger and Billy Sharp, who is on fire at the moment, who can get at back-fours and do well for us. We were struggling to score goals this time last year but we've got goals in the side now. We just need to be a bit tighter at the back and that is something that we work on every day in training."

Mark on the move
Web site logo
Former Rovers defender Mark Hume has completed a transfer from Eastwood Town to UniBond League club Bradford Park Avenue. Hume joined Eastwood in September 2008 after being released by Buxton.
Hume joined Rovers in 1998, but after two seasons at Belle Vue, he joined Barrow where he spent four seasons, playing 188 games and scoring 43 goals. He then moved to Alfreton Town for £4,000 in February 2004, making 50 appearances before suffering a double leg fracture in 2005. After he regained fitness he moved to Stalybridge Celtic, moving on to Harrogate Town in 2007. He then joined Buxton, but after just four games, one goal and one sending off, the player and club parted company.

Heffernan joins Oldham
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers striker Paul Heffernan has joined Oldham Athletic on a one month loan after asking for a loan move away from the Keepmoat Stadium after being frustrated with the lack of first team opportunities this season. Heffernan rejoins his old boss Dave Penney, who originally signed him for Rovers back in June 2005 from Bristol City - ironically Oldham were rivals for his signature back then.
Heffernan's agent, Clive Hart, told Sky Sports in October: "I have spoken to Sean about a possible loan move for Paul, Sean understands Paul's situation and we are working to try and find a compromise. Paul wants to be playing regular first-team football and he feels a loan move offers him the best chance of getting that. We will see what offers come in and then decide what to do."
Heffernan's availability is ideal for Oldham - they have lost the services of Pawel Abbott recently due to complications following a routine hernia operation. With Dave Penney knowing the strengths of the Irishman, he will be hoping that Heffernan can help the Latics climb the League One table.
Despite not holding down a regular place since Sean O'Driscoll's arrival at the club, Heffernan has still managed to end up as the club's top goal scorer in most seasons, and has an impressive Rovers career record of 54 goals in 105 starts.

Royals after Stock?
Web site logo
Reading boss Brendan Rodgers is reported to be interested in signing Rovers midfielder Brian Stock in the January transfer window, according to the Reading Chronicle. However, with Stock still out of action as he recovers from an ankle operation, any move for the player may well wait until the very end of the transfer window.
The Reading Chronicle suggest that Rodgers is lining up a bid of £1.75 million for Stock, who also attracted the attention of Premiership club Wolves in the summer.
Rodgers said of the situation: "He's a very good player, he's an outstanding talent. He's done very well for Sean O'Driscoll at Doncaster and become a Welsh international. If you're asking me is he our type of player then yes, he's a footballer who understands the game. But he a player at another club and I'm not in the business of talking about other clubs' players."

Fairhurst extends stay
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers striker Waide Fairhurst has extended his loan spell at Shrewsbury Town by another month, and will now stay at the club until January 2nd. Fairhurst has hit three goals in his first month at Shrewsbury, with boss Paul Simpson saying: "They're young lads and I feel there's still more to come from them. Waide has already shown us he's a goalscorer, but hopefully they'll both reach new levels with us."
Fairhurst scored two goals in two starts for Rovers this season, but found first team chances limited following the arrival of Billy Sharp on loan from Sheffield United.

Schofield - no comment on Cheltenham job
Web site logo
John Schofield, currently in temporary charge at Cheltenham Town following the supsension of Martin Allen after an alleged incident outside a Cheltenham night club earlier in the season, was being coy about his hopes of becoming full-time manager at the club after he guided them to a 5-1 victory over Barnet last weekend.
The ex-Rovers skipper has been in charge since 20th October whilst the board carry out an internal investigation into the incident, with a decision expected to be made by the club within the next week.
Schofield said: "I can't answer questions about whether I might get the job full-time, what I can do is tell you that it is great to score goals and it is even better to win games."

Gregg moves on
Web site logo
Ex-Rovers striker Gregg Blundell has moved to Blue Square Premier side Barrow on a month's loan from Chester City, with a view to the move becoming permanent in January. Blundell has not been a regular in Chester's first team this season due to injuries, and with Chester continuing to be in financial trouble, they have allowed Blundell to move out to reduce their wage bill.
He enjoyed two promotions with Doncaster Rovers before moving on to Chester in July 2005 for £105,000, but after 18 months, he moved to Darlington and Accrington Stanley before returning to the Deva Stadium in August 2009.

No moves expected on deadline day
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers assistant manager Richard O'Kelly has said that it looks unlikely that Rovers will be making any loan signings ahead of this afternoon's loan transfer deadline.
Rovers have been out checking on potential targets, but with the injury situation at the club improving, the urgency in strengthening the squad seems to have reduced. Jason Shackell, Adam Lockwood and Byron Webster all featured in a behind closed doors practice match against Barnsley on Tuesday, meaning defensive cover is now available.
O'Kelly said: "I would think it is doubtful that we'll be bringing anyone in because we've got all these players back and it gives us more strength in depth. Because of the improvements we've made to medical back-up since we've been here players are somewhere near when they come back - they probably just need games. They all came through and there would be no problem at all playing any of them at Nottingham Forest on Saturday."
Also playing in the Barnsley game were Martin Woods, Paul Heffernan, Lewis Guy, Mark Wilson, James Hayter and John Spicer, all of which have not featured regularly in recent first team games. Sean McDaid also played in the game as he continues his comeback after an 18-month absence.
We understand that Rovers won the match 3-2, with Paul Heffernan scoring twice.

Muirhead after new club?
Web site logo
Former Rovers striker Ben Muirhead may shortly need to be looking for a new club, just weeks after joining Kings Lynn. Muirhead has scored once in his eight games for Lynn and is set to feature again on Saturday for their home game against Guiseley.
However, Kings Lynn FC were officially wound up in the High Court in London yesterday after failing to pay an outstanding £67,000 to HM Customs & Excise. UniBond League officials have allowed Lynn to fulfill this weekend's fixture, with the club having seven days to launch an appeal against the court's decision.
The club's "Blue and Gold Trust" has called an emergency meeting for this evening as the club face a race against time to raise enough funds to persuade the court to reverse their decision.

Williams in England squad
Web site logo
Rachel Williams of Doncaster Rovers Belles has been included int he England squad for this evening's World Cup qualifying match against Turkey in Izmir. With injuries affecting the squad, the England management are taking the opportunity to give some fringe players a chance to press their claims.
England coach, Hope Powell, said: "The win against Malta was a good start to our qualifying campaign in terms of the result, but it was disappointing that we didn't score more goals, so although we will rightly be expected to beat Turkey, we'll have to be better with our play in the final third and with our finishing."
"With no disrespect to Turkey, a game like this presents us with the opportunity to help develop players as senior internationals. The girls who have been brought in have deserved their call-ups, and hopefully we can produce a sharper all-round performance than we did against Malta."
Turkey are ranked at 57th in the world rankings, 49 places below England, and were beaten 5-0 at home by Spain in their first qualifying match. England won their opening match of the campaign 8-0 against Malta, despite making seven changes from September's Euro 2009 match in Helsinki.

Hull City 5 Youth Team 1
Web site logo
Details are now available of the youth team's match at Hull City on Saturday, which resulted in a 5-1 defeat in the fixture, which was played at Winterton.
After City almost went ahead in the opening minutes of the game, Rovers took the lead in the 18th minute when Matthew Stirland scored with a left footed shot from the edge of the area, which flew into the bottom corner of the Hull net. Rovers went close to increasing their lead when Stephen Hoyle's shot was just wide of the target, then Stirland almost got another when a spectacular overhead kick went too close to keeper Bill Ward.
Rovers had a lucky escape when keeper William Biggs appeared to carry the ball over his own goal line, but the referee ruled that the ball had not wholly crossed the line. Hull drew level two minutes before half time when a free kick into the penalty area resulted in Bradley's shot going over a defender on the line to go into the net.
Hull took the lead two minutes into the second half, with Ford's shot going in off the foot of the post - then they went 3-1 up in the 56th minute when Ford got his second goal of the game. Cullen scored Hull's fourth in the 70th minute, with the final goal of the game coming in the third minute of stoppage time, when Ford completed his hat-trick.
Hull City: Bill Ward, Lee Wright, Dean Deagle (Conor Townend 70), Joe Cooper, Sonny Bradley, Danny Wilkinson, Danny Emerton, Gavan Holohan, Mark Cullen (Richard Overment 70), Joe Fox (Joel Shortland 70), Ray Ford.
Substitute not used: Joe Cracknell.
Doncaster Rovers: William Biggs, Ashley Towler, Andrew Turner, Kyle Blake, Aaron Jones, Joe Betts, Mathew Stirland, Matthew Thompson, Stephen Hoyle (Nick Adkins 77), Aaron Moxam, Robert Oldham (Bradley Grayson 63)
Substitutes not used: Jordan Bradshaw, Louis Radcliffe.

Rovers fear loan duo may leave
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers fear that they may lose striker Billy Sharp in the January transfer window after his recent goal scoring exploits have brought his name to the attention of other clubs. Sharp is on a season-long loan at Rovers, although Sheffield United reserve the right to recall the player if he is to be transferred elsewhere.
However, Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has admitted that they will not be able to make a bid for Sharp due to the transfer fee likely to be demanded, along with the player's wages. O'Driscoll said: "Billy came here to play some games - because he wasn't playing regularly at United - and he's achieved that. If he plays regularly his goal-scoring record suggests he'll score goals, and that's proved to be the case. To be fair to the boy, he's done what we asked him to do."
"Billy was a big-money signing so Sheffield United are not going to let him go cheaply. We'd love to keep him for the season but if that's not the case then at least his loan period has helped everyone concerned. It will have helped Billy get his career back on track; it will have helped Sheffield United and he's helped us, so we can't complain."
It's a similar situation with centre back Jason Shackell, who has impressed since joining Rovers on loan from Wolves. His loan period runs until January, and whilst Rovers entertain the hope that Shackell may stay on loan until the end of the season, his good form of late may result in other clubs making a move for him.
O'Driscoll explained: "Wolves made it clear to Jason that he wasn't going to be part of their plans and he came to us on loan. But, again, he was a big-money signing, and for us to be able to afford the wages that these people command at other clubs would be impossible. Then, of course, you've got a transfer fee on top of that. So it's a difficult situation. Jason has always been a good player and he's been excellent for us."

Dean thanks boss

Dean Shiels was quick to thank boss Sean O'Driscoll for showing faith in him following Saturday's victory over promotion chasing Queens Park Rangers. Shiels was doutbtful to start the game, but repaid O'Driscoll's faith by scoring his fourth goal in the last five games.
Dean said: "I had to work hard to get fit for the game. I got injured last Thursday when I was with the national team, so it was unfortunate to miss out on that and I was disappointed. I didn't actually train until Friday and that was the first time that I'd trained with the squad. I have to thank the gaffer for showing the faith to put me in, even though I hadn't been training."

There were a couple of players with Rovers connections scoring goals in last night's matches.
Firstly, in League Two, Waide Fairhurst scored for Shrewsbury on the stroke of half time in what could be the last match of his loan spell at the New Meadow, but the Shrews still went down 2-1 at Hereford United.
Meanwhile in the Blue Square Premier, ex-Rovers winger Craig Nelthorpe scored for Barrow in their 2-2 home draw with Grays Athletic. Jason Walker, who spent time on trials at Rovers during the summer, scored Barrow's other goal.

Wheater stripped of captaincy
Web site logo
Former Rovers loanee David Wheater has had the club captaincy at Middlesbrough taken from him after new manager Gordon Strachan decided that the responsibility was affecting his form. Wheater, still aged only 22, was on the verge of the England squad 18 months ago, but Middlesbrough's relegation probably has hindered his chances in recent months.
Strachan said: "David is a young player who needs to concentrate on developing his football."
Instead, the captaincy has been handed to experienced midfielder Gary O'Neil, with Strachan explaining: “Gary has a lot of football under his belt and he knows the game. I also like the idea of having a captain in midfield where he is in a better position to direct things around the pitch.”
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has stepped back from reports in the north-east that he may be poised to make a move for Wheater in the January transfer window. Bruce said: “I’ve not really looked, if I’m honest, because the big clubs don’t usually have a shuffle in January. I could do with perhaps just a couple more bodies, but then managers are always going to say that! If there’s anybody available who I think can improve us then I will ask the question, but I’m really happy with the balance of the squad as it stands at the moment.”

York quartet get court date

Four York City players, three of which - Michael Ingham, Michael Rankine and Craig Nelthorpe - are ex-Rovers players, appeared before magistrates in York on Monday charged with an alleged incident in York city centre on August 2nd which resulted in local man Oliver Powell being injured. All four are charged with affray, with Nelthorpe also being accused of hitting Mr Powell and causing him actual bodily harm.
The four only spoke to confirm their names, ages and addresses during the brief hearing, and all declined to enter a plea.
The case has been adjourned until 14th, when they are expected to stand trial at York Crown Court. All four were released on unconditional bail.

Ryan celebrates sublime Rovers
Web site logo
Rovers chairman John Ryan rates the second half performance by Doncaster Rovers as the best he has seen by the club since he started following the club back in 1958.
He said: "Having watched Doncaster Rovers since February 1958, I can say in all the years, I have never seen such a complete performance as against QPR in the second half. Bearing in mind the quality of our opponents on Saturday, to produce such slick passing that completely bewildered our illustrious visitors was breathtaking. The 34-pass move was only halted by a dirty tackle or we may have scored from a move that took most of the team in. This move summed up the style of football we play. So hopefully more people will come and watch this scintillating football from the best Doncaster Rovers side bar none."

Woods is Grimsby's new boss
Web site logo
Former Doncaster Rovers striker Neil Woods has been named as the new manager at League Two strugglers Grimsby Town. Woods has been the youth team coach at Blundell Park since 2003, and has been in temporary charge of the first team following the departure of Mike Newell in October.
Woods commented: "I'm delighted but I did take my time to throw my hat into the ring. I've a lot of affection for the club. I've taken my time and I'm very confident we can turn it around."
Since taking over from Newell, Grimsby have drawn three matches, but are yet to taste their first victory, which means they remain in deep trouble, being in one of the relegation places from League Two, which just 13 points from 17 games.

McCormack banned
Web site logo
Ex-Rovers striker Ross McCormack was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £2,500 with £100 costs yeesterday after being found guilty of driving whilst over the drink-drive limit last month. McCormack crashed his Range Rover into some railings in Cardiff early on a Sunday morning following Cardiff's away game at Sheffield United, but fled the scene. However, police found one of his number plates at the scene, and McCormack was found to still be over the limit when they breat tested him on Sunday morning.
Mark Hathan, defending, said: "Mr McCormack was foolish and idiotic to get in the vehicle in his condition. He has brought shame on himself, his employers at Cardiff City and his profession."
Cardiff City are understood to be considering imposing disciplinary action on the Scotland striker in due course, but refused to issue a statement following the court case.

O'Kelly praises Mustapha
Web site logo
Rovers assistant manager Richard O'Kelly has praised the attitude of young defender Mustapha Dumbuya, even though he has not yet made an impact on the first team since joining the club in the summer.
O'Kelly said of the former Potters Bar player: "He's doing tremendously well in training. He's really looking the part. We'd have absolutely no problem putting him in the side if we were short. He's learning all the time. You are looking at him being an attacking full-back because of the attributes he has got."

Rovers 2 QPR 0
Web site logo
After a distincly below par first half, the second half sprang to life, with Rovers dominating proceedings, scoring twice in a twelve minute pariod to stamp their authority on the game. The early part of the first half suggested that Rovers would have problems in keeping Rangers out, but the visitors, who came into the game in fifth place, failed to find a cutting edge to finish off some promising moves. Rovers struggled to make their mark against their opponents, who appeared taller than them - but after the break, it was Rovers who dictated play. After the break, Rovers were first to most balls, and went through a sublime passing move ahead of the second goal which saw around forty passes without a Rangers player getting anywhere near the ball.
Rovers opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, with Billy Sharp slotting the ball home following a corner - and celebrated in style, appearing to lift weights using the corner flag! The second goal came twelve minutes later when a Dean Shiels shot from 25 yards took a slight deflection to evade the visiting keeper. After that, Rovers were never in any serious trouble, and had two appeals for a penalty waved away - one of them a blatant handball - and comfortably played out the rest of the game.

Goals check
Web site logo
We begin our review of former Doncaster Rovers players scoring goals this weekend in League Two, where an Adebayo Akinfenwa brace earned Northampton Town a point as they drew 2-2 at home to Crewe Alexandra after being 2-0 down at half time.
In the Blue Square Premier, Michael Rankine scored the only goal of the game for York City in their victory at AFC Wimbledon, which lifts the Minstermen into the play-off places for the first time this season.
A little further down, in the UniBond Premier Division, ex-Rovers youth player Rob O'Brien scored for Bradford Park Avenue in their 3-1 win over Frickley Athletic. Also scoring for Bradford yesterday was ex-Rovers defender Jamie Price - another ex-Rovers at Park Avenue is striker Andy Campbell, although he is currently at Whitby Town on loan.
Finally, Tristram Whitman is having a good season for Carlton Town - he scored again yesterday as they won 2-1 at Market Drayton Town in the UniBond First Division (South).

What the managers said
Web site logo
Not surprisingly, Sean O'Driscoll was highly satisfied with the performance of his Rovers side yesterday afternoon.
He said: "I thought we were excellent. We've had great performances and not had the right results and sometimes we have played, in our eyes, poorly and got points. But we ticked all the boxes today; we got the right performance and the right result. You could see the confidence after the first goal. It's nice to see. The chests came out, everyone wanted the ball. When they get like that we are difficult to beat."
O'Driscoll insisted that, despite mixed results this season, Rovers will continue to attempt to play with style. He continued: "We have been ahead in a lot of big games and not quite been able to get a result but we have learnt from the experience, got better and looked good. We had a sequence of about 35 passes at one point and I think we deserved the result. The result is important but if you put the emphasis on winning, the outcome is more important than the processes and we work on processes. If you play right then the results will come."
QPR boss Jim Magilton was very disappointed with how his players performed, and was especially disappointed with the two goals conceded.
Magilton commented: "I was very disappointed for both goals. We were architects of our own downfall in some ways. I thought it was an even game, but at times we looked lethargic, as if we had had two weeks off. We looked like we had lads who had been reading nice things about themselves. We had opportunities and moments, but Doncaster are a good side and we didn't take our chances. It's difficult because we set high standards and we fell. At half-time I felt we should go for the game but Jay's miss summed up our afternoon. For the last half-hour it was as poor as they have played for me. I can't be too hard on them because they have been very good until now."
At least Magilton praised Rovers for their performance, in which Rangers were totally outplayed. He said: "Doncaster pride themselves on the football they play and they were better than us today - it's as simple as that. We've set ourselves standards and we fell below them - we just fell asleep for the first goal."

Wright gets leave of absence
Web site logo
Former Rovers loan defender Alan Wright has been given a short leave of absence by Fleetwood Town to enable him to take part in the Masters Tour of Asia, which takes place this week in Vietman and Malaysia. Wright will be representing Sheffield United in the tournament, although he will represent the Liverpool team in an eleven-a-side match against the Vietman national team.
The defender has played 14 matches for Fleetwood so far this season, scoring the opening goal in last weekend's 8-0 win over Redditch United.
Wright said: “I spoke with the gaffer and he gave me the go ahead. It’s worked out well regarding our Blue Square North fixture list. I’ll be playing for Sheffield United this time and I’ll also represent the Liverpool team in an XI aside against the Vietnam national team. It will be good to catch up with a few faces from the past but I won’t be treating it as a holiday. We’ve some tough games coming up in the league and my match fitness will be kept going with the games over there.”
Also taking part in the tournament will be former Rovers striker Brian Deane.

Rovers v QPR

A number of late decisions may well have to be made by Sean O'Driscoll ahead of this afternoon's home game against Queens Park Rangers. Adam Lockwood, Byron Webster and Jason Shackell have resumed training - Shackell is, however, rated at just 50/50 to be fit enough for the match as he recovers from a groin injury. Lockwood and Webster are also uncertain to play, as they have both been out for longer periods as they recover from foot and elbow injuries respectively.
Midfielder Dean Shiels also faces a late fitness test on an ankle injury picked up whilst training with the Northern Ireland squad.
Definitely missing this afternoon will be midfielder Martin Woods, who serves a one match suspension following his sending off at Plymouth Argyle - but better news comes with left back Gareth Roberts having recovered from a bruised ankle sustained in the Plymouth game.
Despite returning to training, long-term absentees Steve Brooker and Sean McDaid continue their absences as they continue to build up their fitness.
Queens Park Rangers, currently in the play-off places, have added new signings Steven Reid and Tommy Williams to their squad for today's game, with Gary Borrowdale and Damion Stewart fit again after recovering from injury. However, they will be missing Gavin McMahon (knee), Rowan Vine (groin), Angelo Balanta (groin), Alessandro Pellicori (knee), Lee Cook (knee) and Fitz Hall (back).
They will also be without veteran midfielder Gareth Ainsworth, who joined Wycombe on loan this week, and keeper Tom Heaton, whose loan deal has now ended.
Reid joined Rangers this week on a month's loan from Blackburn as he seeks to build up his match fitness after a long injury absence. Also joining Rangers on loan this week are Rhys Taylor (from Chelsea) and Tommy Williams (from Peterborough), who will provide competition as boss Jim Magilton makes sure his players keep up the pressure on the leading clubs.
Rovers go into the game just one point ahead of the bottom three and will be keen to pick up three points to ease their position - although they are also only 12 points away from the play-offs. Rangers arrive in Doncaster in fifth place and despite winning just one of their last three games, will be hoping to keep the pressure on their play-off rivals. Rangers have, like Rovers, the tendency to concede late goals, so we'd perhaps suggest that you would be unwise to leave this afternoon's game before the final whistle!

Injury update
Web site logo
On loan defender Jason Shackell faces a fitness test ahead of this afternoon's game at the Keepmoat Stadium as he battles to overcome a groin injury.
Sean O'Driscoll told the Doncaster Star: "It's touch and go whether we risk him. Jason spent yesterday with the physios so that we make sure we don't throw him in too early. He'll train and then see how he is."
The chances of Adam Lockwood and Byron Webster also look to be slim, with O'Driscoll commenting: "Saturday is probably a little bit to soon for them, but at least it gives us the option of putting them on the bench, which we didn't have at Plymouth."
Physio John Dickens confirms that striker Steve Brooker is still on schedule to return to full training either late this month or early in December. He also mentioned that skipper Martin Woods, who misses today's game due to suspension, may have broken his nose in the Plymouth Argyle fixtuer. Dickens said: "It is still swollen but we are just leaving it a few days to see how it settles down and take it from there - though obviously if Martin has any breathing problems we'll get it looked at it. "We might send him to the specialist and see if he wants to do an X-ray. If it is broken Martin might need an operation at some stage, but if that was the case he'd probably have it done in the close season."

Lockwood keeps busy
Web site logo
Rovers defender Adam Lockwood has been keeping busy during his enforced absence from the side in recent weeks, as he watches games closely to learn more about the game.
He told the Press Association: "I'm not going to say it hasn't been frustrating because it has, no player finds it easy watching matches. But you can learn things about the game looking on from the sidelines, new things, stuff you might not become aware of when you're playing."

Kinnear for Scotland?
Web site logo
Former Rovers manager Joe Kinnear has set his eyes on a new job - he is one of the latest names to throw his name into the hat for the vacant position as manager of the Scottish national side.
He told Sky Sports News: "When I left Tottenham I moved on abroad and my first job abroad was as manager of India. I was out there for two years, so I started off with an international side. I missed out on, I think, two occasions to be the manager of Ireland, which would always have been a dream job for me. But sure, why not? I'll throw my hat in the ring. If they felt they (Scotland) wanted to interview me, I'd be more than happy to go along and talk."

Shrews after Fairhurst loan extension
Web site logo

Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson is optimistic that Doncaster Rovers will agree to extend the loan of Waide Fairhurst, whose initial month at the Shrews ends after next Tuesday's away game at local rivals Hereford United.
Simpson said: “We are hopeful we are going to get extended but I have come to realise that, until they have signed, it means nothing.”
Fairhurst has impressed since moving to the New Meadow, scoring on his debut against Aldershot, his goal then setting injury hit Town on the way to victory in the final of the Shropshire Senior Cup final against AFC Telford last week.

Tickets for home parts of the ground will be availble until kick-off - Rovers also have a part-season ticket currently on offer which will cover the last 15 matches of the season.

Ex-Rovers striker Adriano Rigoglioso has signed for UniBond Division One (North) club Colwyn Bay and is set to make his debut for Bay in their game against Lancaster City tomorrow afternoon. Rigoglioso was released by Grays Athletic earlier this season and was recently on trial at Chester City.
Colwyn Bay boss Neil Young commented: "Since Rob Hopley got injured we’ve been looking for a big striker with experience. Adriano more than fits the bill. He's a big friend of Jimmy Kelly (Bay's former Rovers midfielder) and it's refreshing in this day and age that he's not money-motivated and just wants to come here to play football."

Duane goes to Church!
Web site logo
Former Rovers striker Duane Darby has extended his already lengthy playing career by signing for Midland Alliance clbu Alvechurch. Darby joined the club two weeks ago, and made an instant impact for his new club, scoring an 85th minute winner as Alvechurch beat Stratford Town 3-2. Darby has an already lengthy list of former clubs, having previously played for Cradley Town, Torquay, Doncaster, Hull, Notts County, Rushden & Diamonds, Shrewsbury, Nuneaton Borough, Halesowen Town, Bromsgrove Rovers, Stourport Swifts, Hednesford Town and Evesham United.
Joint boss Simon Redhead said: “Duane Darby is a good addition for us. He has not played many games this season but has great experience. Our job is to get him fit, he is the right sort of player for us and hopefully we can keep hold of him for as long as possible.”

Belles to go full-time?
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers Belles could become a full-time club by 2011, following news that the Football Association have announced that an eight-team Women's Super League will be launched in 2011, which will be comprised of full-time clubs.
Despite their current financial problems, Rovers Belles are keen on the idea, despite the FA wanting each club's top four players to be paid between £20,000 and £30,000. The FA have said that clubs must also match the £70,000 a year that the FA is prepared to give each team for the first two years of the league's operation.
Doncaster Rovers Belles chairman Jonathan James said: "We definitely want in – our business plan is 90 per cent complete and I'm very confident that we will raise the necessary finance."

Ex-Rovers goalkeeper Stuart Nelson, who joined Aberdeen in the summer from Norwich City, has been sent to a specialist this week as his club try to find out the reason for his ongoing wrist injury that has kept him out of action in recent weeks. Stock targets New Year return
Web site logo
Rovers skipper Brian Stock is scheduled to make a return to the first team in mid-January after missing over two months as he recovers from an ankle operation. Stock is due to return to training in about a month's time, and is keen to get back into action to help pull the side away from the prospect of dropping into the bottom three of the Championship.
Stock said: "My rehab is going really well and physio John Dickens is going to try to step things up a tiny bit. It has been frustrating but it has given me the chance to get my back 100 per cent. It has also given me the chance to build my strength up. Working with Ross, the fitness coach, has really helped me and I've put on 2kg, maybe a little bit more, and it's all muscle."
"People might say that, what with the back and the ankle, I've had a bad time with injuries over the last 18 months. But I've not missed that many games - particularly last season. I think that we have been playing okay while I've been out. We are scoring more goals than we were this time last year, though we are conceding more. If we can keep it a bit tighter at the back then we'll do okay because we've got goals in the team and we've got players with ability."

Lockwood confident for future
Web site logo
Rovers defender Adam Lockwood, who has been sidelined in recent games after breaking a bone in his foot in the Swansea City match, is confident that Rovers will produce an improvement in form in the second half of the season as the injury situation at the club improves.
Lockwood, who is likely to be added to the squad for Saturday's home game against Queens Park Rangers, told the Pres Association: "Most players out will be back by Christmas or just after so we'll see how we get on. But it will make a big difference having a full-strength squad all challenging for places. We'll obviously be stronger. I think if we get all our players back fit we can repeat what we did last season. It's been proven again this season with the results, that everybody is capable of beating anybody on their day."

Rovers priced out of United youngsters
Web site logo
Sean O'Driscoll has confirmed that he has been priced out of the market when enquiring about the possibility of signing some reserve team players from Manchester United in recent weeks to help strengthen his injury-hit squad. He said: "We watched Manchester United reserves and there were four or five players that we would like. With one of the players that we asked about there was a loan fee involved, which you can understand from Manchester United's point of view, but which was something that we couldn't afford."

McDaid and Wilson on the way back
Web site logo
Midfielder Mark Wilson took the opportunity of playing in last week's behind closed doors practice game against Mansfield Town to prove his fitness and stake a claim for inclusion in the first team squad for tomorrow's game against Queen's Park Rangers. He played for the whole game after missing recent games due to calf and thigh injuries, and reported no adverse reaction after the match.
Also playing in that game was Sean McDaid, who played his second match after resuming training following an 18-month lay-off due to a serious knee injury. Following the game, Sean commented: "All I've said all along is that I've been out for 18 months and I've been working hard for 18 months to get back in this team. That's the aim, but at the end of the day, it's down to the manager and if he wants to do that (a loan deal), you'd have to ask him. I haven't heard anything like that yet, I think that's just what he's said, but as long as I am playing in these practice games I am trying to get into the team. I have been working hard over the past 18 months to get into the Championship and that's what I want to do."
" I'm getting there and I played 45 minutes in another friendly this week. That's two friendlies now. I played half-an-hour against Sheffield United last week and then 45 minutes, so I am just building up each time I play. My reactions have been fine and I have been in training for about a month now. Next week I think we will have another practice match and hopefully I can get another 60 or 70 minutes in there."

Nicol's men out of play-offs
Web site logo
Ex-Rovers' defender Steve Nicol, now manager at US club New England Revolution, saw his team win their last match of the regular season to qualify for the end of season MLS play-offs - but they bowed out of the play-off competition after a two-leg match gainst Chicago earlier this month. Revolution won the first leg 2-1, but went down 2-0 in the second leg in Chicago to be eliminated 3-2 on aggregate.
Nicol, who has two years left on his Revolution contract, has consistently guided his side to the play-offs in each season he has been at he club, but suffered a set-back a few weeks ago when his assistant, Paul Mariner, left to join Plymouth Argyle.

All Whites reach World Cup finals
Web site logo
Former Rovers defender David Mulligan was part of the New Zealand side that was celebrating on Saturday when they beat Bahrain 1-0 in the second leg of their qualifying play-off match. Plymouth Argyle striker Rory Fallon scored the crucial goal that sends the All Whites to South Afrcia, and which will bring the New Zealand FA a cash bonanza of around NZ$10 million. The victory, at a 35,194 sell-out in the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, means that they qualify from the Asia/Oceana qualifying group.
However, before then, Mulligan has to make sure that he is included. He has been far from a regular for Wellington Phoenix this season, but has still been a key member of the international squad. He has trained well since returning from the international squad and is tipped to get a "rare start" this week, either gainst Newcastle (today) or Perth (Sunday). Mulligan is out of contract at the end of the season, with no guarantee that he will be kept on by Phoenix for the 2010 season.

Waide fires Shrews to cup win
Web site logo
Rovers striker Waide Fairhurst, on loan at Shrewsbury Town, fired Shrewsbory town to victory in the final of the Shropshire Senior Cup last night at the New Bucks Head, with boss Paul Simpson naming seven players who played in Saturday's league game against Torquay United in the starting line-up. Shrewsbury beat AFC Telford 2-1, with Fairhurst's strike opening the scoring in the 43rd minute. Telford equalised barely a minute later, but Shrewsbury's second, and winning, goal came in the 60th minute through Bright. Also playing in the Shrewsbury side was former Rovers defender Kevin McIntyre.
There are some other former Rovers players scoring goals recently that we neglected to mention on Sunday. Jason Price scored twice in the second half for Millwall as they beat AFC Wimbledon 4-1 on 9th November in the FA Cup first round. Also in the FA Cup, Jon-Paul Pittman scored his sixth goal of the season for Wycombe Wanderers in their remarkable 4-4 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Finally, Tristram Whitman scored for Carlton Town in their UniBond League Division One (South) fixture at Chasetown last Tuesday. The 1-1 draw means Carlton are now in 11th place in the table.

Gillett happy to stay at Rovers

On-loan Southampton midfielder Simon Gillett has said that he would like to stay at Doncaster Rovers beyond his current two-month loan deal, which began on 12th October. Sean O'Driscoll got his man at the eighth time of asking, something which is recognised by Simon.
He told the Doncaster Star: "It is always nice to know that you are wanted by the manager and I am really thankful to the manager for persevering. I just want to come up here and play as well as I can for both him and the team and just see how it goes. I'd certainly be very happy to stay beyond December, which is when my loan period runs out."

Queens Park Rangers have almost sold all of their ticket allocation for Saturday's game at the Keepmoat Stadium. At the weekend, they only had around 300 tickets left of their allocation of 1,200, with remaining tickets expected to be sold well before match day. All club coach travel from London to the game has also sold out.
The Keepmoat Stadium web site reports that 8,288 tickets for the home sections have been sold (including season tickets), so another attendance of over 10,000 ought to be attained.

Richardson sees red
Web site logo
Former Rovers goalkeeper Barry Richardson, now goalkeeping coach at Cheltenham, was shown the red card on Saturday as the match between Lincoln City and Cheltenham Town turned into a bad-tempered encounter. Richardson, who was a substitute in the game, got involved in a fracas which followed the sending off of Lincoln's Aaron Brown for a tackle on Theo Lewis in the 69th minute. Lincoln substitute Ian Pearce was also a recipent of a red card by referee Graham Salisbury, with Lincoln manager Chris Sutton sent to watch the rest of the match from the stands.
Ex-Rovers skipper John Schofield is currently the caretaker manager at Cheltenham Town. His comment on the match was: "On the balance of play we're disappointed to have only got a point. I think we were the side trying to win it and perhaps we could've done better when Lincoln went down to 10 men. I appealed for the red card like everybody else did. The referee made a decision and then it got very crowded in our technical area."

The newly formed Edlington Royals scored a consolation goal when they were 4-0 down midway through the first half, but they were thoroughly outclassed by their Premier League opponents.
Doncaster Rovers Belles have won the County Cup six times in the last seven seasons.

Youth Team 3 Rotherham 1
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers won a keenly fought local derby against Rotherham United in the Football League Youth Alliance on Saturday morning. Rovers went behind in the 16th minute when Denton beat Biggs, the Rovers keeper, to a through ball and slotted the ball into the net. The equaliser came in the 38th minute as Moxam fired a shot from the edge of the penalty area which gave the Rotherham keeper no chance. The half time score was 1-1, despite some strong appeals for a penalty by Rotherham just before the end of the half.
Rovers started the second half strongly, with Grayson being unlucky not to score on two or three ocasions. Eventaully the pressure paid off in the 74th minute when the industrious Grayson was brought down in the penalty area, Moxam scored the resulting spot kick. The third goal for Rovers came in the 78th minute when Moxam volleyed home a corner kick.
The three points gained mean Rovers are now 11th in the 14-team division, with 11 points from 11 games.
Rovers: Biggs, Towler, Turner, Blake, Clifton, Jones, Grayson, Thompson, Hoyle, Moxam, Oldham
Substitute: Adkins for Hoyle (84). Radcliffe, Betts, Bradshaw

Rovers injury boost
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers look likely to have at least three players returning from injury for Saturday's home game against Queens Park Rangers. Adam Lockwood and Byron Webster, who have been absent for over a month with foot and elbow injuries respectively, have resumed full training during the 'international break' and are available for selection.
Also set to return is on-loan defender Jason Shackell, who has missed the Plymouth match with a groin injury. Shackell had an injection in his groin last Friday and is due to return to full training on Thursday, after he has had chance to return to Wolves for them to assess the injury.
Sean O'Driscoll explained: "The scan results show that he's got one or two problems with his groin and that he probably needed an injection. We spoke to Wolves and said that we hoped to have the injection done yesterday, which hopefully will reduce the inflamation. They said that they would like to assess for a couple of days when he's had it done. The plan is that he'll be back with us on Thursday when, touch wood, he should be okay. The injection won't solve the problem but it should help him on his way. Jason has rested for a week and the symptoms have resolved quite a bit."
Gareth Roberts had an X-Ray on his ankle after picking up a knock against Plymouth, which revealed nothing worse than bruising. He is expected to be available for Saturday's game.

Smith set to end Morecambe stint
Web site logo
Rovers goalkeeper Ben Smith looks likely to have played his last match for Morecambe of his loan deal, which has now expired. Smith was not allowed to play in Morecambe's FA Cup match a couple of Saturday's ago, with Rovers not wanting him to become cup-tied, and he also did not play in their game on Saturday, as regular first team choice Steve Phillips returned after recovering from injury.
Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll said: "He didn't play in the FA Cup (last weekend) for obvious reasons, but the reports that we've had back is that he has done very well. But their first-choice keeper is fit now so we are just monitoring the situation. We would like Ben to get more games, so if Morecombe come back and say that he has done enough to retain his place then we would let him go again. If not, then we'd like to move him somewhere else where he can continue to play games. At this stage of his career, playing games is more important than training."

O'Driscoll denies De Laet interest
Web site logo
Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has denied that he is about to sign Manchester United's young defender Ritchie de Laet on loan. O'Driscoll has been making a number of enquiries about signing players to strengthen his injury-ravaged squad, and recently attended a Manchester United reserve match.
O'Driscoll said: "We watched Manchester United reserves and there were four or five players that we would like. We chatted to them about certain players - I don't think Ritchie was one of them; in passing, maybe - to see what the situation was, but that is as far as it goes. With one of the players that we asked about there was a loan fee involved, which you can understand from Manchester United's point of view, but which was something that we couldn't afford."
O'Driscoll confirmed their continuing interest in Austrian striker Roman Kienast, saying: "He'd give us something different, so he would add to the squad, but he wouldn't be able to play until the January window. There is an interest, but nothing that we've acted upon because he's not available. He's got one or two other options and he needs to see if anything comes to fruition. We've told him that we've got one or two people that we are interested in."

Rovers give Simunovic trial
Web site logo
Doncaster Rovers have given Swedish striker Mario Simunovic a trial in the last couple of weeks, and he impressed in the behind closed doors friendly against Mansfield Town last week. The player has now gone on a trial to Notts County, and his agent has now reported that Birmingham City and Sheffield United have shown interest in the Swedish youth team international.
Simunovic has said that Rovers have promised an answer as to whether they want to sign him by this week, and told Swedish reporters: "Things have been going really fast. I will be given a decision if Doncaster want to take this further by Wednesday at latest. But regardless of what happens I will be going to Notts County to train. The trial is scheduled to be late next week."
He continued: "I have been made very welcome in England. The players and staff at Doncaster are very friendly and have really made me feel at home."

Goals review - part one
Web site logo
Our review of goals scored by former Rovers players is somewhat longer than usual this week, as we continue to catch up with outstanding news items over the last fortnight. With three weekends of action to review, we may as well start back on Saturday, 31st October, where former Rovers skipper Graeme Lee marked his return to the Notts County side with an 85th minute equaliser in their home League Two game against Shrewsbury Town.
In the Blue Square Premeir, Gregg Blundell scored Chester City's third goal in the 77th minute as Chester ran out as 3-1 winners at home to AFC Wimbledon.
The following Saturday saw the first round of the FA Cup take place. Despite Jack Lester's early goal for Chesterfield, his current club went down to a 3-1 home defeat against Bournemouth. Gareth Taylor scored the only goal of the game as Wrexham beat a stubborn Lowestoft Town.
In league action, Ben Muirhead was one of Kings Lynn's scorers in their remarkable 11-0 home win over Durham City in the UniBond Premier League. Durham were hit with a mass player exodus early in the season, and are having to play on using mainly youth team players.
In the Northern Counties East Division One, former youth team player Calum Selby scored one of the goals for Hemsworth Miners Welfare in their 3-2 away win at Eccleshill United. Finally, for the weekend of November 7th, ex-Rovers striker Steve Burton scored one of Guiseley's goals in extra time of their West Riding County Cup First Round match at Tadcaster Albion. It proved to be the goal which put Guiseley into the second round draw with a 3-2 victory.

Goals review - part two
Web site logo
We continue our review of former Rovers players scoring goals by moving forward to this last Saturday, November 14th. In League Two, Darren Byfield scored for Walsall in their 2-0 home win over Stockport. Jack Lester scored twice for Chesterfield in their 3-2 away win at Rochdale.
In the Blue Square Premier League, Craig Nelthorpe set up both of Barrow's goals in their 2-2 draw against AFC Wimbledon. His 30th minute cross in from the left was diverted into his own net by a Wimbledon defender; then three minutes into the second half he set up former Rovers trialist Jason Walker for their second goal.
In the same division, Michael Rankine scored the only goal of the game for York City in their home win over Ebbsfleet United.
A little further down the league structure, Andy Campbell scored for Whitby Town in the 90th minute to give them a 2-1 home win over Stocksbridge Park Steels.
In midweek matches last week, Neil Grayson scored one of Glapwell's goals in their 4-1 away win at Loughborough Dynamon in the UniBond League Division One (South). Finally, Danny Cadamarteri scored one of Dundee United's goals in their 3-1 home win over city rivals Dundee in a friendly match to mark the installation of United's new floodlights, which raised money for both clubs' youth development schemes.

Campbell goes out on loan
Web site logo
Former Rovers striker Andy Campbell has moved to Whitby Town on loan due to the prolific strike force at Bradford Park Avenue meaning that he can't get into their team. The former £1 million striker has been struggling with injuries recently, but the club have scored 13 goals in their last three games, including a 7-1 win at bottom of the table Durham City, so understandably, the Bradford manager, John Deacey, feels that Campbell would benefit for match action out on loan.
Deacey stressed that Campbell remains a big part of his plans for this season, commenting: “I have three forwards who are in red-hot form and one who has done very well when called on but needed more game-time to sharpen up. That’s why I let Andy go to Whitby Town on loan but he will be coming back."
He continued: “You let a class player like Andy go at your peril so that’s why he remains part of our plans. Last season we got caught out because we didn’t have enough forwards at the club for the run-in. I expect a couple of new signings to come in and when Andy comes back it will boost us even more.”

Families all together for Forest game
Web site logo
Nottingham Forest are taking part in a special ticket promotion for their home game against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, 28th November. The initiative is being promoted by the Football League, sees a family ticket being available in the family enclosure in the Brian Clough Stand for £25, with both Rovers and Forest supporters occupying the same stand. Tickets for this promotion are only available from the Doncaster Rovers office during normal working hours, and are NOT availble from the Keepmoat Stadium ticket office. Supporters will have to complete a purchase form when buying the tickets - all tickets must be bought in person and cannot be ordered by phone.
If a family group is less than four, it will still cost £25 for the package, which will still work out at a substantial discount, with the adult ticket alone costing £25. No concessionary rates are available under this offer. At least one child in the family group must be under the age of 12.
Nottingham Forest's safety officer Alan Bexon said the scheme is one of the first of its kind in England. He said: "It's something we have been considering for some time. We sincerely hope the idea will catch on and lead to us eventually getting back to a situation where there is no need to segregate fans. Football has evolved since the days when hooliganism was at a peak and we believe the initiative could be a step in a very positive direction."
A similar scheme is in place at Fulham, which has a neutral stand.

Lawrence is new boss at Ashford
Web site logo
Former Doncaster Rovers winger Jamie Lawrence has been appointed as the new manager at Ashford Town after being selected from over forty applicants for the post. The former Jamaican international has had extensive experience of the Ryman League, having played for Worthing, Harrow Borough and Margate.
The selection panel were impressed by Lawrence's plans to concentrate on youth development at the club, and also felt that his extensive contacts in the game woudl help attract new players to the club. Jamie runs his own soccer academy, which some of the Ashford players attend, as has Republic of Ireland international Clinton Morrison.
He took charge of the side for the first time on November 7th, when Ashford were at home to Harrow Borough.
