John Buckley
right winger
1984-1986, 1987-1988

John's footballing career began when he signed schoolboy forms at Queens Park, with a dream move to Celtic coming when he was seventeen years old, in the 1979/80 season. A move to Partick Thistle followed four years later. Rovers manager Billy Bremner signed him from Partick in July 1984, and he developed into a skilful winger with good close control of the ball. He moved to Elland Road shortly after Rovers manager Bremner, but he struggled to make an impact at the higher level. A loan periods at Leicester was followed by a return to Belle Vue on loan in the 1987/88 season, before he moved to Rotherham in the 1987/88 season. After two seasons at Scunthorpe, he returned to Millmoor, but he suffered a a horrific injury left him with a skull injury that left him briefly on a life-support machine. Fortunately, he recovered, but he never played senior football again.
